The Microtel in Ann Arbor was a great hotel for the price - $55 for one person for one night. This was my first experience with Microtel and I was pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly and efficient and the entire hotel, including the room, was clean and new. The room was much more attractively decorated than I expected; it was a little stinky, however, which was surprising given how clean and new it looked. The wireless internet and free phone calls were very nice amenities. It would have been nice to have upgraded towels (the ones provided were small and rough) a nicer, soft, reading light by the bed (there was plenty of lighting in the room, just all very bright) and tables in the breakfast area (there was only 1 table, which was occupied, so I and others had to carry our breakfast up to our rooms) but especially considering the price of the hotel these were not major issues.
My major issue was that the hotel was hard to find. There is a sign when you get off the highway - Mictrotel to the right - but it's not visible from the road and there was no further signage. It was hiding behind a Holiday Inn. I found by driving up and down the road, then assuming it must be somewhere back behind the buildings I could see, and coming upon it by accident.
Close to the University of Michigan hospital and very easy driving access to downtown Ann Arbor and the campus.
