Excellent location and value with clean, quiet, comfortable rooms. There are several dining options nearby with easy access to Highway 23, the University of Michgan, downtown and Kerrytown.

I've stayed at this Microtel 3 times in 2008 for two to four nights each stay and every stay was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. The bed is very comfortable. There is fresh fruit and juice available 24/7 and cookies at the front desk late afternoon on most days.

The included breakfast is basic, but adequate: bagels, Danish, muffins, three or four cold cereal choices and oatmeal, and juice and coffee. Plus free local and long distance phone calls (within the 48 lower states) and free WiFi.

Microtel provides complimentary van service . The lobby has a computer and printer available for guests in the lobby. I've found this handy when I've needed to print emails; I travel with my laptop, but not a printer.

Guests are welcome to use the indoor pool at the neighboring Hawthorne Inn.

I appreciate the excellent lighting in the rooms and the ice machines conveniently located on every floor.

This facility is relatively new, nicely landscaped with plenty of parking.

My family had an enjoyable stay at the Ann Arbor Microtel over a 3-day period. We paid $65/one-bed, and $75/two-bed rooms.
The hotel is very clean with European style decor.
My daughter liked to sit in the box seat by window.
My wife and I were surprised that the coffee was excellent.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1) If you are sensitive to smoke request room on 1st or 2nd floor.
2) If you are sensitive to noise request room facing parking lot.
(My wife is noise sensitive, but said the traffic noise from US23 did not bother her.)
3) If you don't like usual free-breakfast starchy processed stuff then go to Busch's grocery which is 2 blocks away. I got a roll plus raspberry jelly, and used the toaster at the Microtell the following morning.
4) Be-Won Korean restaurant is very good, and within walking distance.
5) If the weather is nice there is a concrete tennis court outside.
6) If you want to excercise a day-pass can be purchased from the University of Michigan for $10. I went to the NCRB which is about 1-mile from hotel to play basketball. NCRB has racquetball, a swimming pool, a weight room, and aerobic exercise machines.

I am a travel agent in San Francisco and took my son to Ann Arbor to look at the University. Of course we try to save money, so I picked this hotel. I was very pleasantly surprised. For the price,
they are clean, the beds are great, you get free internet, long distance and a continental breakfast. I found the staff very pleasant and only complaint is that the walls are a little thin, but if you aren't sleeping in too late, shouldn't be a problem. Ask for a parking lot room, it is quieter. Very close to North Campus and easy to get to..

After spending an exhausting day at the hospital with our daughter, we returned to the Microtel around 11 PM to find a party going on in our hallway. I immediately called the front desk to complain, since we were going straight to bed. At midnight, they finally got the kids to move into their room, which was right next door. The party continued and I called the front desk after 1 AM to complain again. They quieted down for about ½ hour, then started up again. This went on all night long with calls to the front desk and nothing being done.

My wife only got 2 hours of sleep that night and I didn’t get any sleep at all. Instead of a good night’s sleep we were exhausted when were went to the hospital again the next day.
I complained to the desk clerk the next day and left my name and number asking for the manager to call me. I never heard from him.

This place doesn’t care about its guests. We will never stay there again.

The Microtel in Ann Arbor was a great hotel for the price - $55 for one person for one night. This was my first experience with Microtel and I was pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly and efficient and the entire hotel, including the room, was clean and new. The room was much more attractively decorated than I expected; it was a little stinky, however, which was surprising given how clean and new it looked. The wireless internet and free phone calls were very nice amenities. It would have been nice to have upgraded towels (the ones provided were small and rough) a nicer, soft, reading light by the bed (there was plenty of lighting in the room, just all very bright) and tables in the breakfast area (there was only 1 table, which was occupied, so I and others had to carry our breakfast up to our rooms) but especially considering the price of the hotel these were not major issues.

My major issue was that the hotel was hard to find. There is a sign when you get off the highway - Mictrotel to the right - but it's not visible from the road and there was no further signage. It was hiding behind a Holiday Inn. I found by driving up and down the road, then assuming it must be somewhere back behind the buildings I could see, and coming upon it by accident.

Close to the University of Michigan hospital and very easy driving access to downtown Ann Arbor and the campus.
