We stayed here as part of a Intrepid tour of Cambodia and were plesently surprised. The rooms and areas were very clean, the bathrooms included a spa bath and there was an on site pool. Other advantages included a on site eatery with good cambodian food as well as khemer massages being available. It was the best hotel of our trip and would recommend it to our family and friends.

“Pleasant hotel with friendly staff”

Stayed here as part of a tour. Pleasant hotel, small restaurant adjoining where meals can be purchased at reasonable cost. Friendly staff. Cheap internet access. Swimming pool a bonus. A little dated but clean.

“Very basic and needs a clean”

Freedom Hotel

23 Feb 2008

Freedom Hotel is a backpacker joint and as such is expected to be basic. However, for the price we paid (40USD) there are much, much better hotels in Siem Reap in terms of location, service, and room quality. Our room was in need of a good clean - cobwebs around the air con unit, dirty curtains hanging off their rail, very threadbare greyish towels etc. and we had a view of a water tank, a building site, a pile of rubble/rubbish - all through very dirty windows. We tried the pool to see if that would make us feel any better about the place but again, it all felt very neglected. The public areas were shabby and there was no lift. We limited our choices at breakfast to simple toast and coffee having been put off food-hygiene-wise by a filthy menu and having paid 5USD extra each for such a breakfast is unacceptable. I would expect to pay half of what we paid for this hotel when considering its quality. We arrived at Freedom after staying at another hotel in Siem Reap and so had a standard to compare it to locally. As a result we checked out and found somewhere else to stay.

“Decent hotel, nice pool”

The Freedom is a decent hotel, and seems to feature quite a number of different room types. I only stayed in one, so your mileage may vary.

The room was pretty basic, but had amenities like aircon, tv, fridge and a somewhat mediocre bathroom with a hot tub. It all looked a bit worn, but everything was functioning properly. Breakfast was not included, but the hotel has a reasonable restaurant that serves a mixed selection of meals at reasonable prices (though there is better value around in siem reap).

Most visitors will only stay in this hotel to visit angkor - so location is perhaps not too important. The freedom is about 1 to 2 km from the city center along NH6, as are many other hotels. Getting to the (old) city center is easy by tuk-tuk or moto, but otherwise a brisk walk of 20 to 40 minutes. Tuk-tuks are in front of the hotel, and offer the usual rates for visiting angkor, though you do need to bargain.

The best thing about the freedom is their pool however: Not too many hotels in this price range feature one in siem reap, and the freedom's is pretty good: A decent-size salt-water pool that offers a great refreshment after a day at the temples in the hot season. Food and drinks are served at the pool by the restaurant's hotel, but you can bring your own as well.

Great hotel to base your travels to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. It was clean, cheap, the staff accomodating, and the air conditioning could be cold enough to freeze water. The TV had an abundance of english language movies and channels in case you wanted to relax after seeing the sights. The hotel's location is good although you would probably want to take a quick tuk tuk ride (they're cheap too) to the city centre and markets to save you from walking a bit. One of the best things about this hotel is the swimming pool!! It felt amazing after such hot dusty days. Now, if you're looking for an ultra high-end luxury hotel in Siem Reap there are other options. This is your a great choice if you are looking for a great mid-range hotel. The open-air restaurant at the hotel we found to be super as well. Good food, decently priced, with a large variety of items. We noticed a lot of local and Thai families eating there too. We stayed at this hotel as part of a adventure travel group.
