“Great location - some shortcomings!”

After reading some of the reviews here we booked online with the hotel for 3 nights at a special rate(the $169 rate ended the end of Feb) that gave us free breakfast, airport pick up, 1 hr free internet per day and other discounts. We did not use the airport pickup as we had booked a guide and driver who picked us up - but the hotel provided us with free airport drop off instead, which was appreciated. They also offered us early check in as our flight arrived at 9 am. Check in was quick and efficient and communication in English was generally alright - some staff were much better than others.

The hotel is located about a 10-15 minute walk from the old market in a fairly quiet area with shops nearby. It was near Koulon 11 which was convenient for our taking in the evening buffet and apsara show (recommended). The building is nicely appointed in style, has a pool and fitness room and a restaurant. They also have a business center but it only had one computer online(sometimes) and was a very slow system. They charged $2 an hour for this rather poor service - we went down the street and found a place with high speed wifi for .75 an hour. Breakfast was very good with many choices and a 'cook to order' eggs station. We used the restaurant often as we found it convenient for the lunch break from temple viewing and we were too tired in the evenings to bother heading elsewhere. The food was of a good standard and reasonably priced but we found that they had so many tour groups that we could not always get a table inside.

The room itself was large and comfortable although the beds were quite firm. We appreciated the coffee/tea facility and mini fridge. The shower temperature fluctuated. It seemed like we had little control of the A/C-it was almost too cold. We found the service was a bit spotty, having to ask several times for towels.

We discovered the day after we checked out that we had left our photo bank behind and e-mailed the hotel to see if it was found in the room. We had to e-mail again before they responded that it had been found. We asked that the item be sent to our home address and place the charges on our credit card. A week later we contacted our guide, John Teng, to check into it as we had no response from the hotel. He collected the item and had it shipped to us.

Despite some shortcomings, we were pleased with our choice to stay at the Angkor Holiday Hotel and would recommend it as a medium priced place to stay in Siem Reap.

we visited cambodia for 3 days and would recommend this hotel. The rooms were spacious and very clean. the staff are friendly and helpful. There was a wide choice of food at breakfast. Centrally located for angkor park and 10 min walk to the centre where there are lots of bars and restaurants. we were lucky to have pre booked a guide before we arrived in cambodia thanks to a recommendation from trip advisor forum. Our guides name was Sun Same. Sun asked us where we wanted to visit before we arrived and suggested a two day tour costing 25 usd a day. We visted Angkor park on day one and Sun picked us up at 5.00 am so we could see the sun rise, arriving in darkness added to the thrill but would suggest that you take a torch. It was magical and cant describe the beauty that unfolded as the sun came up. On the second day we visited an artist workshop then went onto the lake to see the floating village. We also visted the killing field and war museum. Truly memorable visit and cant recommend sun highly enough.

When we finalized that we were going to Siem Reap, Cambodia, first thing that came to my mind was the hotel that we were sleeping in. I searched online and got a great deal of 169USD from Angkor Holiday Hotel.
My hubby emailed to inquire and got a respond immediately from Mr. Sopheap.
Part of the USD 169 package are- in parenthesis are my comments:

* free transfer to and from airport- (saves you money and hassle in haggling with the locals for the fare)

* refreshments of your choice upon arrival from our extensive cocktail menu- (iced tea was served, YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE)

* complimentary bottle of champagne- (it's FOC, not one to satisfy your taste)

* free basket of assorted tropical fruits- (lucky with this, as the basket has bananas, mangoes and other fruits)

* 2 night accommodation in our deluxe room, twin or couple share- ( we were upgraded to a suite room FOC)

* free laundry 2kg load per day- (2kg /day can be combined into one washing in a day)

* complimentary one hour massage- (we have in room massage, the two therapist were annoying as they kept talking and laughing while massaging us, they only quiet down when i ask them "what's wrong?" and said "sorry"- very rude!)

* complimentary dinner for two at Pavilion Restaurant set menu- ( soup, appetizer, 3 main course, dessert, coffee/tea, rice unlimited)

* daily breakfast buffet- (wide selection of food and drinks)

* plus one extended night at no extra charge

The driver was already there with our names on the signboard in his hand when we were at the arrival area. Travel time to the hotel from the airport was less than 10 minutes.
Iced tea were given upon our arrival at the hotel. We were informed that our room was upgraded to a suite free of charge. Upon settling in and checking our fantastically big room, I noticed that the toilet bowl has icky stuff and immediately informed the reception area. They act promptly. I also requested for a remote control for the television and this request was responded after several requests and phone call to the reception area and was given on our third day. So much for the four star treatment.
Besides that, the hotel also arranged for our driver/car and guide for our second day and also for our dinner at KOULEN II restaurant to watch the Apsara show the day we arrived.
Upon checking out, they charge us for the massage we had in our room which was included in their promotional offer. It costs an additional 17USD. For the lousy therapists, We won't be paying a single dime. So we told them that it's part of their offer. After deliberating with themselves, they let us pay for the 169USD as agreed. I have read in another review that they also charge their clients with something else in their final bill, I don't know if its a coincidence but it also happened to us.
All in all, I think, we got our money's worth. Also note worthy is that we were not able to meet Mr. Sopheap in our entire stay and that the driver that he recommended charge us an additional 10USD for just the sunrise viewing to Angkor Wat over and above the 25USD standard pay for one day aircon car/driver. tsk tsk bad driver!

“Very Good Hotel”

Angkor Holiday Hotel

We stayed in this hotel for three nights in December 2007. We chose this hotel since the reviews were quite good.

This hotel is located in the city, about a fifteen minute walk to the city market. This a modern and very clean hotel. Our room was quite large, with two beds, one being a king size mattress. The pool area is easily accessible and also very clean. After a hot day of touring Angkor Wat, a dip in the pool was certainly welcome. The buffet breakfast was excellent.

However housekeeping was sometimes not up to standard. We had no hand towels during our stay. Coffee was not replaced either. We did not have enough glasses. The hot water was variable, going from very hot to cold, probably as the other customers used the water.
Even with these minor irritations, we recommend this hotel due to its location, its overall cleanliness and its breakfast offering.

Stayed at Angkor Holiday Hotel for 3-nights during the Christmas holidays. Booked a few weeks in advanced and availed of their special 3-night promotion in a deluxe room with free airport transfers, laundry service, daily breakfast, one dinner, massage, bottle of wine, fruit basket and welcome drinks all for just $169.

The first thing guests notice as they enter the lobby are the Khmer-style furnishings and decors. This provides a relatively good ambiance, and adds a little charm to the otherwise mediocre interiors of the hotel. Check-in was straightforward. Our rooms were in the topmost floor and had its own balcony. Curiously enough, the hotel elevator terminates at the third floor and guests have to make their way to the 4th floor using the stairs.

As expected, our room had the free amenities as mentioned above. The room itself was very clean and had spacious beds (one queen bed plus one single bed in the room). The room came with standard amenities such as slippers, electronic safe, toiletries, a well-stocked mini-bar and TV with dozens of channels. There were also two bottles of mineral water provided daily for free.

The breakfast was of good variety. There was a buffet spread which featured Western and Asian dishes, including a Noodle Soup and Omelet station. Guests could choose to dine in the restaurant or in the pool-side. During the morning, they had a girl playing traditional Khmer music near the restaurant to entertain the dining guests.

The hotel is located in the center of Siem Reap town, around 10 to 15 minutes walk to the Old Market and Bar Street and one block away from the Royal Independence Gardens.

Service in the hotel was good. The staff were polite and knew basic English. The only problem we had was during check-out. They included two cans of beer in our bill even though we never took anything from the mini-bar. Fortunately, this was resolved quickly and without any hassle.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel. Angkor Holiday Hotel definitely provides exceptional value for its price point.
