The generally friendly, helpful and English-speaking staff is the best thing of this hotel. Otherwise, Angkor Star provides basic amenities: good air-con (a must in Cambodia), comfortable-enough beds, towels and basic toiletries, although they give you very little
toilet paper: we ran out of it by the morning, and we were only there after 10 pm each night...But they will give you more upon request. There is also a safety box in our room, although it’s stuck three out of ten times… but if you keep trying, it will open.
However, if you are obsessed with cleanness, this is not the place for you. My friends and I found several stains on our bed sheets, pillow cases and towels. And they might not have changed our sheets during the three nights we stayed there, as we found same stains on them over all three nights… There are also stains in the toilet and the bath tub, and the water from the shower and the faucet tastes like rust… There are spider webs filled with dead mosquitoes on our ceiling…
Breakfast was ok… the omelet bar was a nice touch, but the orange juice was disgusting. We only had breakfast there once. The café in Hotel de la Paix, only 5-10 mins walk away is a great place for breakfast with most items less than USD 5. If you are driving or hiring a car, the breakfast prix fix at Amansara is great but a little pricy: USD 30 per head.
