We stayed here for a (short) longterm stay (two months) and enjoyed it overall. Great things include the breakfast buffet, the gym - really well equipped with free weights, treadmills, spinning and normal machines too. They have normal western sauna as well as steam room. The swimming pool was generally empty which was nice.
The room we had was spacious and clean.
The inconsistent service could be noticed in a few places:
1) in our deal we had a fruit basket weekly - after the first week we didn't get another one again (instead they sometimes placed beer in our room which none of us drink)
2) they started charging for the garage when we lived there. We were suppose to get a card key so we wouldn't have to get a voucher every morning. This took quite a few days and too many reminders from our side
3) when ordering coffee at breakfast time it sometimes took 2 minutes to get it, sometimes 20 min, sometimes fully forgotten. I ordered peppermint tea (which they had, but had run out of stock of like a lot of the other tea sorts) and got a cup of rosemarie tea with all the needles in the cup.
4) when ordering a standard dish for the restaurant (same as breakfast) one of the main ingredients was fully missing. This was served without a comment. I asked what had happened with it, but there was no understanding until three persons later. The ingredient was later added.
5) the building site next door belongs to the same hotel group as the Shangri-la - the more surprising it is that they sometimes accept them working until 1-2 am. After a couples of complaints from other guests and us this didn't happen too often.
The language barrier is still too big of a hinder for the hotel to get 5/5 from me. However, the wifi we had access to was very fast. The staff were polite and the hotel very nice.
The location is not in the "center" of Shenyang, but I see the location a positive thing for western travellers. MixC (a shopping center) is located directly next to it (cross the road), and here you can get food which a tourist stomach can handle :) The metro system can be access from there too. It is also on the main road leading to/from the airport so you are quickly there. But as the hotel has fairly big roads on two sides and a building site on the third it could be a bit loud.
The garage is not very specious driving in and out. Once inside it is not a problem though.
