We stayed in the Seti for 1 night in October as we wanted to stay in Abu Simbel overnight to see the evening sound and light show. The hotel was USD 185 a night and the only way I can see them justifying this price is because it is only one of 3 or 4 hotels in the tiny town.
The hotel is in need of some serious work to justify the 5 star status it gives itself. It certainly is not 5 star. We stayed in some hostels during our stay in Egypt that were so much better than anything the Seti had to offer. Firstly on arrival there was a problem with our payment which they only advised us by email about the evening before our arrival at the hotel (it was worked out however we had paid 6 weeks prior to our arrival so it wasn't pleasant to have this sprung upon us the night before our arrival). The rooms were not cleaned to even a good hostel standard and there was a smell in the room. We did not have a great nights sleep as the beds were quite uncomfortable and then at about midnight I woke to a dripping sound which was the air conditioner dripping over my bag! I turned the air con off and it was a hot night so not exactly pleasant. Besides there being no soap in the bathroom, there was also surprisingly no hot water - not even a little bit. We ordered room service in the evening and the food is mediocre at best but the main issue was that our drinks didn't come with the food and we called room service to inform them of this and about 15 minutes later a staff member came to our door just to ask us what we phoned for (didn't bring the drinks) so we explained the drinks weren't delivered (although they were on the bill) and then it was another 15 minutes until the drinks came.
Some of these are rather small complaints that wouldn't usually bother me but for the price tag, it really isn't a hotel I can recommend.
Having said all that, I'm glad we visited Abu Simbel in the afternoon away from all the morning tour buses and I'm really glad we stayed for the evening sound and light show which allowed for some great photos. If you want to do the same, I recommend trying to get one of the cheaper places in town so book early!
