This review is a bit late, but better late than never!
I had the privelage of travelling to Hurghada with my fiancè's family in February 2010. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we knew it was going to be great. It's a pretty large complex, but the check-in went swiftly and the helpful staff then drove us in one of the many small buggies to our bungalows. (I recommend staying in a bungalow since it's closer to the fantastic beach.)
The bungalows themselves were lovely. Clean, tidy and inviting, and they certainly lived up to our expectiations! We walked through the lovely grounds of the resort back to the main building for dinner. The food was fantastic! A great selection of main courses - and all at a very reasonable price, considering that we hadn't gone All Inclusive. (I recommend rather taking a taxi into the various areas of Hurghada and trying the local restaurants, in stead of only eating at the hotel! Just be sure to clean your hands well with antibac before you eat, and ONLY drink bottled water!)
The breakfast was just as good as the dinner, and none of us got at all tired of the food- selection after staying for a week.
If you like snorkling the beach at this hotel is totally perfect. But maybe not so good if you just want to sit in the shallows on the sand. (For me it was perfect in other words). There's a beautiful coral reef fairly close to the bathing pier that stretches along the entire lenght of the beach - perfect for beginners and more experienced divers alike. The variation and colour and beauty of the marine life is simply staggering! It offers just as good snorkling as many of the snorkling/diving sights in Hurghada. Snorkling around the pier is also truly amazing. I could have spent my entire holiday doing nothing else! (Snorkling and diving in the Red Sea is totally sublime! You MUST try at least snorkling, even if you've never tried before!)
The staff were always helpful, polite and obliging. Remember to tip well (it's not much money for you and me, but for them it really makes a difference!) The only "complaint" I have about the hotel was the indoor swimmingpool. It felt like swimming in the sewer. But don't worry - the beautiful weather makes the concept of an indoor swimmingpool seem rather pointless. So all in all, definitely a great hotel which I'd recommend to anyone! I've been to Hurghada once before, staying at the Hotel Intercontinental. That was also lovely, but the snorkling would make me go back here any time!
About Hurghada: It's noisy, dirty, chaotic, crowded and wonderful:-) The shopkeepers can be very annoying if you don't know what to expect. One has to be very firm before they understand that "no means no". Basically all the shops sell the same cheap junk. Fine if you want a few gifts to deal out when you get home, but if you want proper shopping, go to London. There are many great restaurants, and I'd recommend sticking to restaurants that seem to have a good turnover with many customers. All the restaurants we went to served truly delicious food at extremely low prices. The staff were always helpful and polite.
I hope to go back some day soon!
