We booked our 2 weeks in the sun after reading some great trip advisor reviews about this resort - and we certainly weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived, we were looked after by Alvin (the owner and Manager) and his very helpful and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them to improve our holiday experience.
ROOMS: All rooms are suites, comprising a large bedroom with adjoining spacious bathroom, tv, hairdryer and private balcony or terrace. In addition there is another large seating area comprising two sofa beds, dining table, tv, minibar, safe, access to a second private balcony/terrace, and yet another spacious bathroom. For anyone placing private space and comfort high on their list of priorities when booking a holiday, then you can't do better than stay here.
The rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily, and there was even a turn down service in the evening. We used the hotels laundry service twice, and both times, the items were returned same day!!
FOOD - excellent. We booked half-board, and all meals are cooked and served fresh - no buffets where food is left out for hours on end!! Dinner is a 4 course set meal, but if you want to change any item, the staff are more than happy to oblige. Nine times out of ten however, we found that the set menu suited us.
DRINK - A reasonable selection of wines, spirits and soft drinks were available at meal times, either in the Dining Room, Pool Bar or Beach Bar. Wine is expensive wherever you are in Egypt (compared to the UK), but all other drinks were extremely reasonable.
POOL - Wow - what a pool !!!! Shaped like a four leaf clover, it is long enough and deep enough to meet most people's needs. There are sunbeds & shaded areas around the pool as well as on the private stretch of beach which is just a 1 minute walk away. The staff will quickly ensure you have sufficient beach towels at both locations, and are always on hand to provide drinks and snacks whenever you want them. None of us were snorkellers (and definitely not divers), so it is best I don't say too much about that subject other than to report the smiling faces of all those who did snorkel the reef and who came back each day with smiling faces!!!! By the end of the holiday, we too were bitten by the need to see the underwater coral, and suitably fitted up (from the Dive Centre next door), we managed our first snorkel in the "beginners" end!!!! With our newly fitted swim shoes, goggles & snorkel - If nothing else - we looked the part!!! Lesson two will have to wait till we return next year.
ENTERTAINMENT - Apart from what you make yourself in the sea and pool, there is very little else to interrupt your quiet and relaxing holiday. No beat boxes are allowed around the pool or on the beach, but there is ample song from the very tame birds who are around and about all day. The "Friends" Bar has a pool table, darts board and selection of board games, but to be honest, doing nothing all day is very tiring and we made little use of this facility.
SURROUNDING AREA & TOURS - There is no local "town" to speak of - well not one you would spend a day walking round shopping etc, so we didn't. We had intended to do a couple of tours to St Catherine's Monastery & maybe a some evening star gazing, but to be honest, we were happy just relaxing and chilling out with our fellow guests.
All in all, this was perhaps the most relaxing holiday I have ever been on. The Swisscare Resort is "SERIOUS CHILL" and is not for those who like to shop in the local towns or eat in local restaurants. Nor will you find the staff suddenly turning into gawdily clad gymnasts or fire eaters by night!!!!! It is a small, select resort which goes to extreme lengths to ensure you have a relaxing holiday. Can't wait to go back.
