My wife, myself and our 4yr old grand-daughter stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in Nov 2011.
The main reasons for choosing this hotel were based on the facilities for children which turned out to be first class. The kids club in particular excelled offering sessions am and pm,6 days a week. Our grand-daughter enjoyed every minute and as the staff were very professional this allowed us to have a couple of hours in the sun, safe in the knowledge that all was well for the under 5s in our party. There is a large section of this hotel specifically designed for kids including a large splash pool with every type of slide you can imagine.Needless to say we spent a lot of time in this area. There is also a large wave pool which sadly was not heated so no one was brave enough to use it.This was a shame as they still put the wave machine on several times a day.
The pools and aquapark for the adults were also very impressive but again only 1 of the smaller pools were heated and this proved to be a magnet for very boisterous eastern european water polo players.
We had booked a family room which came with 2 bedrooms and a nice clean bathroom area.
The main bedroom had a decent flat screen tv with lots of channels.Due to the evening entertainment or should i say lack of it I became quite an expert in seeking out the english speaking channels. This was not a major problem as our grand-daughter was usually exhausted by 10pm so we usually had a night cap on the balcony. At this point I would urge anyone wanting a nice view to request a pool room view, otherwise the view from the front facing rooms is an undeveloped desert area and a part built hotel which looks to have ran out of funds.
Next to the major problem area of this hotel namely the main buffet restaurant. The first impression upon entering is to wonder why they have no staff to greet you and seat you as you enter but this soon becomes apparant. As most of the tables are not set or covered in dirty plates that have not been cleared away most of the time there is nowhere inviting to sit,so you are left to take cutlery etc from nearby tables to in effect make up your own table. This is not a 5* experience. The food itself is very typical Egyptian buffet fare so no surprises there, but the main problem was the attitude of the staff at the cooking stations.Whatever you requested always seemed to be a chore for the chef and the way it was thrown on your plate when cooked was never done with a smile. At breakfast a chef/waiter was given the job of slicing cheese and ham
and putting 2 miniscule slices on your plate. If you dared to ask for more it became like a scene out of Oliver Twist and to be honest I found it quite funny but my wife did not like going through this experience just to get a couple of slices of cheese. The other problem with the food stations is that nothing seemed to be in any logical order and a lot of time is wasted walking around just looking for something as simple as a spoon to eat your dessert or a portion of butter.I like to relax on holiday but this restaurant is so frustrating every time we came out of it I vowed I would not go back in.
There are other dining options available and when we made our feelings known about the buffet we were told not to go back in but to use the a la cartes instead. We felt this is a common complaint judging by the response and rather than try to solve the issues if you voice your disapproval you are given an alternative dining option.
The a la cartes were better and we would rate them as follows.
no1) The Italian. This was really nice with decent quality food and a nice atmosphere.
no2)The Chinese. Again nice quality with sizzling platters and good service.
no3)The Indian. Not a la carte but quite a nice buffet with decent spicy dishes.
no4)The Lebanese. Not a la carte and not so good.portion of meat on a barbecue tray.get your own salad, pittas etc but this was in darkness so quite challenging. Also this restaurant has a few cats who come on the scene at the same time as your tray of meat.
no5)The English.Again not a la carte and the buffet food is not very good. This restaurant doubles up as the poolside daytime burger and chips alternative to the main buffet.During the day be careful what you eat as chances are the very well fed Egyptian sparrows have beaten you to it.
All the staff outside of the buffet restaurant were very nice friendly people and always cracking a joke with our grand-daughter.The lobby bar staff excelled under a very demanding enviroment and the draught beer was good.
To conclude this is not a bad hotel but there are so many better in Sharm.
A good location for families with young children.
