We stayed at the Sofitel for 5 days. The beach, snorkling, water activities and pool were great. The food, service and rooms were poor. The rating should be lower. Service was very slow and overall friendliness and willingness of the staff to give assistance was below average. The location is very good.

“Highlight of our trip!!”

Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh

We stayed at Sofitel Sharm during the final leg of our Egypt trip in Dec 2007 and loved every minute. The room was excellent, the beach and view was breathtaking, the staff was corteous, there was absolutely nothing to complain about! It was relatively far from Naama town centre compared to several other popular hotels, but we loved the half an hour walk from the hotel to the town, past various restaurants, cafes and hotels. There were many activities organised by the hotel and yes, being part of a French hotel chain, most of the guests were French. But overall, it was a peaceful and relaxing stay and a great way to end our trip. Woudn't hesitate to stay there again!

“Would stay again”

Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh

1 Jun 2008

We went to Egypt worried about the standards but needn't have.

Before going we signed up to the privelidge card for accor/sofitel hotels. This allows you a free late check out if your flight is later on. I also contacted the hotel about transport as i heard the taxi's try to rip you off, they asked for my flight details and provided a courtesy shuttle bus which was waiting on arrival.

We also asked for a room with a good view, we did have to wait slightly on arrival but the room was better than expected. Bathroom was small but no where near as bad as mentioned on other reviews.

There is a minibar which you can use store your drinks also, ours was broke and we reported it, this was fixed within the day.

Heres a summary of goods and bad

Good

Setting of hotel
Staff are excellent
Diving School
Snorkelling
Not over crowded in pool area, which is large.
Rooms but advise pre request.

Bad
Bit further from Namma bay than expected 20 min walk
Drinks are expensive nearly £12 for two spirits and mixers
Buffet is good one day bad next

if you want any info just ask

“Not Fabulous, but not much to complain about”

First let me say at first sight the Sofitel is a delight. The buildings are shaped and laid out in a way that is very attractive. The decor in most of the buildings is beautiful and has a very French/Moroccan feel to it.

The rooms are charming in their layout, but aren't decordated/fitted out consistent with the nightly price. I expected the rooms to be a bit larger, and definitely a bit more by way of newer decor and/or amenities for the145 EURO/226 USD nightly.

The bathroom...oh my the bathroom - this was an utter disappointment. With bright flourescent lighting and an all-white locker room style bathroom (no tub, just a shower) - it was bad bad. Cracked dirty tiling - not nice.

The breakfast buffet was great, good choice, decent food. Still a buffet so best to get there earlier rather than later...but overall highly edible.

Roomservice food was okay, not worth the money, but not horrible. The restaurants onsite similar, not much of a selection.

The hotel staff was super-friendly and helpful, the pool and beach areas are nice and the tours offered are extensive and fairly priced.

Overall a good experience with a few minor disappointments.

“Just returned”

Sofitel Sharm El Sheikh

2 May 2008

Just returned from the Sofitel - as other reviewers have said the bathrooms are a disgrace - also because the rooms are built into the hillside you will get a lot of noise from other guests at all times of the day and night as unlike most hotels there are only rooms on one side of the corridor outside your room and the walls and floor are concrete so sound travels also on our floor some guest seemed incapable of closing the door without slamming it !!

The major problem with this hotel is the fact you can hear the discos from Naama bay each and every evening so if you are a light sleeper dont expect much rest before 3 am

That is except for Thursday eve where the hard Rock Cafe have a open air disco which is about 10 times as loud as the other ones and it actually sounds like the disco is in the hotel and this goes on from 3 am to 6:30 am !!! you have been warned - many guests were complaining !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to the duty manager about this and he said he was trying to get something done about it - I said you better quick because once the word gets out on this forum you will be loosing guests

I cant comment on the food as we ate out in Naama bay most evenings but we did eat in the Indian resturant in the hotel and its excellent

The sunbeds are nearly all taken by 07:30 especially round the pool but only half will be sat on by 11:00 and the brits are as guilty in this as any other nationality !! and that also goes for the beach

To sum up its a nice hotel certainly not 4 or 5 * and not the place for a relaxing break and a good nights sleep !!
