we arrived on the 18th october 2009 and all was well hotel seemed clean, nice room, weather fab. Do not go if you dont want to be pestered by the hotel staff especially women its your worst nightmare they are a nuisance. I also caught E Coli whilst there and spent 4 days of my holiday in bed the doctor wanted to put me into hospital which is a very scary idea being so far away from home. on our departure the coach that picked us up was full of vomit so obviously everyone else had had some sort of bug too.
A pretty crap holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I am a 'half full glass' kind of a girl, but I just do not understand the comments in some of the earlier reviews of this resort! No it was not perfect, but then I was not paying £500 a night for the President Suite.
We arrived late, so they organised a late dinner sitting at 11pm for half a dozen of us. We had been given the all inclusive rules at check in, but had not got around to reading them when we fancied a drink after the finishing time of midnight. Not a problem, of course we could have a drink as we had just arrived.

Concorde El Salam is a very good hotel and action packed resort. We were in a room that looked on to one of the smaller pools. It was quiet because there were not a lot of people wandering past, but it was close enough to everything we needed. We sat by the pool every other day. We did get up early one morning to get a good spot, but every day we sat out there were always some sun longers free. We wandered by the main pool one day at 10am when there were lots of loungers free. The atmoshpere at the small pool was so good, that we didn't even try the larger pool or the beach.
We did not experience the restaurant at opening times, but leave it to the last hour of service and you won't have any problems. During the first few days I did get frustrated at waiting for drinks to be served. The problem was with me, not the waiters. I just needed to chill out and get into holiday mode ... honestly changing my frame of mind meant a lot more enjoyable holiday.
The food was good, lots of choice, and plentiful. We both got upset stomachs, but had packed some basic medicine, so were cured within a few hours. Not all upset stomachs are 'Pharohs Revenge', maybe just different foods so normal medicines may work.
Any requests we made of reception were dealt with immediatly, nothing was too much trouble.
I highly recommend taking organised trips. We took a day trip to Luxor, a very long day, but absolutely amazing. Also, a desert experience - quad biking, camel ride, dinner at a bedouin tent ... worth every penny. The hotel will make up a breakfast box if you are going out before they start serving, or the same at night if you arrive when dinner has finished.

23 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Couples

This was our 8th trip out to Sharm but only the first time we've stayed in the Concorde El Salam. We stayed in the Concorde 'Front' (not the Concorde Sport which is opposite - away from the beach front).
All things considered, this is not a bad hotel although some things certainly need improving. Starting from the beginning, the hotel covers quite a wide area and has alot of blocks of rooms - luckily we were in one of the blocks near to the main pool and having walked around the site, I'm not sure I would've been happy if they'd have put us in one of the blocks near to the road or around one of the small pools as its quite a trek to the main hotel / restaurant / main pool. The main hotel itself is nice and clean albeit a bit dated in style. The hotel consists of a large buffet style restuarant, the reception and a Piano Bar (with a gym / spa underground).
The Pools:
The main pool only has sun loungers around half of it as the rest is taken up by the pool bar or has built up walls around it. It does however have an "infinity style" where it appears as though you are swimming up to the sea. It is badly designed in that the other seating areas underneath the main pool (on a different level) have no direct access into the pool. As there are such a limited number of sun beds, they are packed in tightly with very limited space to move them - they all form rows with no space in between. Not only does this feel like that you are virtually sat on top of other guests and have no personal space, you also had to get up very early in order to get a decent sunbed (there are prime areas which get the sun for the longest period of time - these ones were generally taken by 6.15am). Most of the sunbeds were gone though by about 8am. This also seemed to be the case on the beach where all of the sunbeds in the front row were reserved by 6am. The pool bar is nice though and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They also serve food at the pool bar at lunchtime (burgers, chips, hotdogs etc).
There are 2 other smaller pools within the grounds in between the other blocks of rooms. These are considerably smaller with about 30 or so beds around them and although we never used these pools, we understood from other guests that these were also generally taken by 6.30am (some were even putting their towels out before they went to bed in the evening).
The Main Restaurant -
Breakfast, lunch and dinner (buffet) were served in the main hotel restaurant. There was always a variety of food on offer for each meal and the food was generally good. However, it does get chaotic in there and there doesn't always seem to be enough staff on (it quite often took an age to get tea / coffee in the morning and we returned back to our table after visiting the buffet to find others sat there). Getting there for opening time (7pm) was essential as the restuarant didn't seem big enough for the amount of guests the hotel could accommodate. The queues also started forming for the buffet at dead on 7pm (although the concept of queuing escapes the Russians of which there were many!). The food though was generally hot, plentiful and varied.
The Piano Bar -
This is a small bar which was often only manned by 1 or 2 staff and consequently the service in this bar was poor and the queues were legendary (they also ran out of glasses as well - not good for a bar!). I was surprised that this was really the only bar area in a hotel of this size. The outside seating area is nice though - it overlooks the pool and the sea.
Entertainment -
There is always something going on in or around the main pool (volleyball, aqua aerobics, belly dancing lessons etc) which is good if you like that sort of thing although due to the limited amount of space, its not great if you just want to swim in the pool quietly. The evening entertainment is..................different. There are a couple of singers (I use that term loosely) that sing in the outside seating area of the restaurant and they go on until about 11pm. There are also other things that go on in the evenings which are arranged by the Animation Team (Mr Concorde Competition for example) - there is always something going on!
Outside the Hotel -
Just outside the hotel gates is Soho Square (owned by the Savoy next door) so there are a few bars (the Ice Bar being one where everything is made from ice - walls, bar, glasses), a few restaurants and a few shops. This is great if you fancy getting out of the hotel. There are also a couple of Supermarkets and a couple of Pharmacies in case you are unfortunate enough to get the 'Egyptian Tummy' (as a tip, the stuff you bring from home generally doesn't work on this - go to the Pharmacy and the tablets they give you will clear it up within a day!).
The hotel also provide a shuttle bus down to Naama Bay if you fancy more shopping or a meal out (they have a Hard Rock Cafe and a TGI Friday if you fancy that which are reasonably priced). Naama Bay is very busy and be prepared to barter for everything in the shops but the shopping mall is 'hassle free' so you won;t get people trying to entice you into their shops in the mall - like you do outside the mall.

All in all, I did like the Concorde and I would recommend it to a friend. There are better hotels in Sharm but (as with everything) they do cost more so if you are looking for something which is reasonable at a reasonable price then the Concorde is fine.

My wife and I have just returned from what we hoped would be 2 weeks of relaxation and the occasional outing. Within 24 hours of our arrival my wife was struck down with a severe ' belly bug '. At this point we should point out that several other Brits were also affected. A trip to the local pharmacy was called for but the symptoms lasted for a week.
On inspection of the cutlery and crockery including glasses in the restaurant we discovered large amounts of the previous meals still attached. The glasses were gritty inside and out and really did not look clean. I took a dinner plate from the available pile and found it to be dirty so put it to one side. A waiter picked it up , looked at it , and put it back on the pile for some other person to use..
We reported this to the Thomas Cook rep who promised to speak to the manager. She spoke to him and he admitted there was a problem and that he needed to hire more staff.
My wife, after a week of discomfort and an intimate knowledge of how many tiles there were in the toilet had to go to another pharmacy in Naama Bay for a further course of tablets which seem to have helped.
One evening whilst having our meal, we tried to attract the attention of hte wine waiter who blatantly ignored us 3 times while walking round us to serve the Russians. On complaining to management , the waiter concerned could not be found.
As stated in another review, this hotel cannot cater for the amount of guests and , unless you are built like a front row forward you will be pushed out of the queues for food by the Russians in full view of the staff who do nothing.
The waiters in the piano bar seem to think they are entitled to a tip for breathing unaided. We ordered a round of drinks on several occassions one evening and, after several long waits while the waiters stood around talking, we found it easier to go and get it ourselves.
If I pay for 'all inclusive' I do not expect to pay for the mini bar ( even water had to be paid for!!)
Basicly, I pay tips to people who earn them - not to those who consider them a birth right. Every time you spoke to the staff at the pool their eyes immediately went to your hand to see if it had any money in it.
To say that we were dissappointed is putting it mildly

Me and my partner have just got back from 2 weeks at the concorde and we could not fault a thing. it was our first holiday away together and being 5 months pregnant i was really nervous after reading some of the bad reviews.
But as i said we could not fault anything, the staff inside and around the pool were really friendly and always spent the time to come and say hello when they saw us and we didnt even tip them until the end. They always topped up our drinks and remembered what we had each time.
the hotel was always clean and rooms kept to a very high standard and the cleaner always made things out of the towels for us which were lovely.
there is a lot said about tummy bugs and sickness but we were fine for the whole holiday and we even tried a lot of the different foods which was always to a high standard with a very wide range, there was even cornish pasties and chicken kievs for those who dont like different foods.
beach and main pool were always busy but there was always somewhere for us to sunbathe or sit and there is constantly things going on through out the day and night entertainment wise.

i really really cant understand why people complain so much about this place as it is a lovely hotel and we will definately go back!!

if you have any questions feel free to ask :)
