Our stay was 10/17 march, room 508 Main Hotel. This hotel DOES NOT deserve to be so low down in the ratings This Hotel is in a beautiful location on a large coarse sand beach with umpteen sun loungers and parasols ,the sea, teaming with fish right on its own reef also has a jetty to take you out for snorkelling, many beach bars are dotted along the beach, all part of the all inclusive plan, a fab kids club area/park, pools dotted around the complex, swim up bar was sadly not part of all inclusive but several bars right alongside were. Hotel runs a free bus several times a day to naama bay, a hotel taxi (nice mercedes type car) to Soho sq was £14(haggle) return and worth every penny as apose to a regular taxi £10/12 return and drive like maniacs.
The hotel is exceptionally clean and very grand with beautifully manicured gardens, an earlier reviewer stated only a few sofas in reception, we saw many many beautiful sofas dotted around reception and the theatre, there is also a lobby bar with loads of seats. All inclusive drinks can be taken at all bars except pool bar but some are at certain times only, we never had a problem or had to walk far for a drink.
The hotel has a wonderful disney type wood outdoor theatre area where you can take your drinks and watch the entertainment and across the way is a disco which really picks up around 10pm (this is also where you can get drinks once the lobby bar hits 5pm in the evening) the 'windy' sheesha tent as someone mentioned below was only open 2 nights before the wind picked up and drinks moved to the disco at least the management are listening to previous guest, the tent is lovely and a nice place to sit once the evenings are warmer.
The staff at the sheraton are the best I have ever come across and I have travelled extensively in my time, they are courtious and kind and very friendly, they remember your room/drinks/likes/dislikes and although I tried to tip, they all politely refused, although we did manage to make a few take something for their outstanding service at the end of our stay, I didnt have to leave my lounger once for a drink and all were served in large plastic cups, although we did see some with smaller kid size plastic cups. Sadly some guests treat the staff as if they were something that they had stood in, manners and a smile are free, use them and they will go above and beyond their normal duties to make your stay more special. When we were people watching and saw how they were treated like rubbish by some guests they still had a smile and were very professional, had it been me, I'd have lost my job ages ago lol.
Food... considering the many nationalities who stay here, eg uk, Italian, russian, asian, german, french etc they have their work cut out to keep everyone happy and I think they do a blindingly good job!! there are a huge array of dishes, salads, veggies, soups and breads, breakfast covers just about everything except bacon/pork, everything was hot and well prepared and always a very good choice, sometimes a variation of how we would make it at home but still very tasty, fresh omelettes on a morning and a carvery/kebab etc on an evening, lunch was the same at the white cruiser, although we booked the pool restaurant all but 1 day, (book at pool between 9.30 and 10 am) a 4 course meal served beautifully, soup, salad, main and desert, drinks.. from 3pm at the pool restaurant, sandwiches (steak/chicken/ham etc ) are served in crusty bread, ice cream, fries, and feast type lollies, all very good if you had space, for me the only disappointment was the deserts, as many said below most taste the same whether chocolate or plain, you will find coconut in many and they differ from excedingly tooo sweet or have they forgot to put the sugar in? the jelly however was just like home lol. What I would have liked was if they also served a pouring cream or ice cream with deserts however this would make many more palatable and not so dry. no tummy problems heard of here at all. chefs in and out the kitchen are scrupulously clean and good hygeine is observed at all times, just a shame some of the guests were not so clean, a hand gel on entering should be standard at all buffets in any hotel, maybe something the management could consider? we had our own for before eating and after touching money.
Drinks inc local spirits (vodka was a little harsh for me, tasted more like rum) but my friend enjoyed it (different people different tastes) however the cocktails were good and the white wine gentle, rose lovely..no headaches here!
The entertainment staff are exceptional and we had a great time, a special mention to Miso and Bono (spa) help them with their english or your own language (although they are very good) and you will have a laugh with them too. I cannot fault any member of staff at all to be honest, we treated them with friendliness and respect for the work they do and the long hours they work and they returned it by making our holiday very special, we were looked after very well.
The spa, free jacuzzi (weak) sauna, lockers, I booked a cleopatra package and this included the med pool, which is very very good, had I been there 2 weeks I would have gone back, I had a coconut body scrub and massage this was very professional and the massage corrected a pulled muscle in my arm which I had had for 3 months from some DIY back home, the showers near the med pool could do with a refresh but the rest of the spa was lovely, one thing I found different to back home was that I had to pay before the treatment and the girl was quite money orientated until I did so and only relaxed once I had paid, I prefer to pay afterwards and for me this is the only hotel I have had to pay upfront, for a 5 * hotel this was the only let down as I felt I wasnt trusted to maybe pay afterwards?
Room, we were in the main hotel, with views straight out to sea, we were informed just in a general chat that new furniture would be in all rooms by the end of the year, however we found the room light airy and furnished very nicely with a sofa and huge balcony, comfy beds and hot & cold air con which was powerful, I think I may be about 3 inches shorter due to the shower water pressure lol, bathroom was large and very clean but workmanship when it was built/grouted wasnt the tidiest and this shows due to age, however this is also on the hotels agenda to rectify, everywhere the hotel is clean or being cleaned and although a smoking hotel, my friend who does not smoke never had a problem with it at all as its so big and airy, passive smoke was never a problem as such for her maybe except the disco for some?
the hotel has several shops within the complex and near reception, I believe rented from the hotel, some are expensive comared to fixed price supermarkets in naama (try those if you dont like haggling) the shop at the far end from reception on the left that sells scarves, t shirts etc is run by a hyserically funny egyptian man who sounds like russell brand, infact he did so many accents he sounded more uk than us lol, pay 'russell' a visit he is well priced and worth it for the laugh alone.
if you have booked, you are in for a fantastic holiday, unless you are incredibly snobbish or have no manners , I love and enjoy nice things and Sheraton sharm exceeded my expectations, if you are looking for somewhere luxurious and friendly, book here, it amazes me how places like the badawia for eg in um el sid are so much higher rated on trip advisor??? for when you compare the 2 together, staff may both be friendly but for food, location, cleanliness and overall holiday satisfaction there is no comparison!
Thankyou to all at the Sheraton who made our holiday so very very good!!
Villas are beautiful but rooms in main hotel have a seaview and are closer to all services.
