A friend and I spent Christmas and New Year in this hotel. The whole experience was fantastic. The food was great, rooms very clean, the staff were really helpful and friendly.

We had a fabulous holiday.

There was a really big effort made for Hogmanay - a stage was built and a big show put on. We had no idea that this was happening before we booked this hotel, it was a very pleasant surprise.

I would definately go back to Egypt and this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

“Nice holiday but not 5 star”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

20 Jan 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

A group of 5 adults and 2 children stayed at the Grand Sharm for Christmas. Whilst we all had a good time, I dont think any of us would return.

Dont get me wrong but there were only a few small things that just made it an average holiday.

On arrial we were shown to our sea view room.......great view shame about the awlful stale smoke smell in our non smoking room. Also as a married couple we were disappointed to see 2 single beds and not a double. Had there only been one problem it would have been fine but as non smokers the smell was quite offensive (one of our party was a smoker and did think the smell was overpowering!). Anyway credit to the staff who did move us to a perfect room after the first night.

The grounds are so well kept and all 7 of us had no trouble finding sunbeds together no matter what time we got up even thought the hotel was full. The main pool was freezing though so we only swam in the sea and heated pool. Snorkelling was great and dive staff helpful.....one of our party stupidly lost his room key whilst snorkelling and one of the dive guys retreived it when he took some people out on a dive off the jetty!!!!! Unbelievable!

The main gripe is the lack of bars in the evening. There was often no waiters to be seen so we had to go up to the bar which was not a problem for us but was for the bar staff. They got very rude when we ordered from the bar and told us we had to wait until someone came and took our order at our table. There was also very limited seating inside, which was a shame as some nights were a bit windy and just a little too chilly to sit outside comfortably. The entertainment was poor but was not a big issue for us. Totally recommed the dinner on the beach...great ambience and great food. Well worth the extra pennies

Overall the hotel was great, rooms good, location fab but just a few things need fine tuning to gain its 5 star status.

Dont worry if you are going there.....you will have a good time Enjoy!

“Fantastic”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

17 Dec 2007

We have stayed in Iberotel Grand Sharm for two weeks from 20 November and all I can say it was absolutely fantastic!

The buffet each evening was different as they had different country themes, so I don't think I had the same dinner in the whole two weeks. There is a chef who cooks pasta for you with your chosen ingredients, as well as a chef in the morning who can cook eggs as you like. We made friends with pancake chef, who was really nice, so each morning he cooked fresh pancakes for us. In the evenings you could get a barbeque which was cooked outside the restaurant. Now the service. We found the service quite good (as to Egyptian standards), the waiters were really smiley and helpful. We always got the table in restaurant and I must admit I was really amazed how well they looked after the buffet and how organised it was! So the food was really good. You have to sign the bills everywhere, but that's what you do in all normal hotels, isn't it? We went to the other (the Italian) restaurant only once, but I didn't like it too much and it was a bit overpriced as well...

The most amazing thing we had was the Romantic dinner on the beach - it was really very good, it was about only 6 tables just on the beach lighted with candles and romantic music playing (well I don't like cheesy things, but that was really good!!) We had our own waiter who looked after us really well.

We spend all the time in the beach which I really liked, so we tried to get sun loungers at the front row with no shadows on. For that we had to wake up at 7am and go to put our towels on the loungers we wanted. It sounds early, but if you think that the sun starts going down at 4pm its just the right time to get some sun tan! Also there was a guy who was cleaning your sunglasses and another one who sprayed you with rose water. There was also a chef walking around and giving everybody fresh melon or strawberries dipped in chocolate.

The room was very nice, we had a problem with the terrace door lock and they fixed it minutes after we reported! The houskeeping were leaving towels made into swans and snakes with rose petals on our bed each day.

The hotel is indeed full of Russians, but I wouldn't say they were rude or too demanding. More likely quiet Russians as in other places they are much more horrible. It is probably just something you have to deal with and if you are not ready to, don't go to Sharm then at all as it is the first place to go for Russians.

We really really enjoyed our stay and we are thinking of going to this hotel again as it was fantastic. But if you expect a Hilton or Marriot 5* style, this isn't the place to go. On the other words - you get what you pay.

“We had a good holiday but it could have been better...”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

29 Nov 2007
2/2 found this review helpful

My family (two adults and to children, aged 12 and 4) stayed at Iberotel the first to weeks of November 2007. I had read a lot of reviews but I am sorry to say that I got a bit disappointed.
The weather was fantastic up to 30 degrees each day. The hotel is nice and clean. Besides it has a beautiful garden with nice flowers and trees and the pool area perfect. Hotel’s beach is ok, and sea is the best.

1.The hotel seems overbooked, eventhougt the staff works hard it was very difficult to find a clean well-provided table, serval times it was hard even to find a table - once we had to go to the Italians restaurant because the children was starving (it wasn’t better as it took one hour before we got our food). The atmosphere in the restaurant hectic and bear the impression that every thing should go fast: do not think of getting a cup of coffee after dinner, once they even clear of the our table while we went for more food.

2. To many Russians who behaved impolite, demanding to the staff and made it a struggle to get food on your plate. It seemed as the staff have had enough of the behaviour of the Russians, which unfortunately affected everyone else too

3. We had all-inclusive which we tried last year in Makadi Bay, but in Iberotel it was fare more complicated. At Hotel Grand Makadi, we got a strip around the wrist that showed that we had all-inclusive. At Iberotel you had to sign papers all the time, every time you wanted something to drink you had to sign a paper. Sometimes you even had to wait to get the paper to sign, it was very annoying and also is wasn’t all that was all-inclusive fx you had to pay in the Italian restaurant. At Hotel Grand Makadi everything was all-inclusive: of cause the main restaurant but also the barbecue at the beach, the fish restaurant, the Italian and Lebanese restaurant (at these 3 restaurants you had to make a reservation) and it was even possible to go to the neighbour hotel and eat at their main restaurant – very very uncomplicated. Well maybe I should have asked the agency how it worked, I certainly will remember that next time.

4. We got a room outskirts the hotel area, in the area call the Italian area and the first 3 nights my husband and I woke up to an awful smell of, what we guessed was sewage but it showed to be used toilet water!!!! However it stopped after we mentioned it to the reception, I thing it is disgusting and very unhygienically even though the guide told me it was the usual practice.

All things considered we had a good holiday but there were also many disappointments. There is no doubt in my mind that it certainly is not a 5 star hotel.

“As good as my first visit”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

19 Nov 2007

This is my second visit to this hotel and we found this as good as last year.
Weather fantastic up to 30 degrees each day.
We went all inclusive again and found this suited us better. A couple of things gave changed but nothing drastic - the Shisha Bar is not all inclusive anymore but you can now drink in La Seppia (The a'la carte restaurant).

The hotel was busier than last year but this didnt cause too many problems - we did find that it was best to go for breakfast round 7.30,lunch at 2pm and about 7.30-8.00pm for evening meal. This way you could have a choice of tables either inside the restaurant or outside on the terrace.
The food is just as good - the buffet restaurant is themed each night eg.Egyptian,Italian,Greek,Spanish etc but again there was always something you could find. We did eat in La Seppia on our last night which was beautiful. We both had fillet steaks and a sweet - costing £14.00 for both of us!!!!!! The drinks are still all inclusive in here if you have a meal.
Meals at the pool bar are very good (these are not all inclusive). A pizza worked out at just under £4 and the same for a burger - does make a change from going to the buffet restaurant each day.

There us a larger entertainment programme - a resident singer each night then there is usually a show round 9pm. This was anything from Nubian Dancers to Bingo. I have to say that although the entertainment isnt fantastic it did seem better than what I have seen in the caribbean.

We visited Naama Bay twice - taxis still around £5 one way. We did get the hotel shuttle bus on our second visit but you need to book this on the day you want to go - so book after breakfast as the first time we tried it was already full. If you go into Naama Bay there's plenty of places to eat and good value for money. We had a starter and main course, bottle of wine for £26.00 (for both of us). Camel bar is a good place for a drink and of you want to watch any football. They had a happy hour between 5pm-7pm which was 2 bottles of beer for £1.80. After 7pm the beer is £1.80 per bottle but still quite cheap. You do get mithered a bit when in Naama - the classic line is that a guy will ask you to go into his shop and sign his book. Obviously this is to get you to go into the shop and buy something - we fell for this last year so beware!!

Get up early if you can for sunbeds especially if you want the beach area - the pool could be a little noisy late morning as the animation team do aqua aerobics etc.

Would definately return to this hotel and recommend to anyone wanting a chill out in the sun.
