Re-read reviews of this hotel just before we left for a weeks holiday there (7th February-14th February 2008), was a bit wary after reading some of the not so good reviews. Therefore what a pleasant surprise the Iberotel turned out to be. We had a lovely room with seaview and a really large balcony that was a lovely suntrap. This was the first time we have ever been Fully Inclusive (we booked this option on the advice of Tripadvisor reviewers) and were a bit apprehensive at first. But we soon found the food in the main restaurant was good, okay it's not A La Carte but we managed to find something at breakfast, lunch and dinner and I must admit we enjoyed it. Twice we ate in the Italian restaurant, (where you have to pay though fully inclusive guests do get a 25% discount) the first night our three course meal came to £13.50 per person and the next time £11 (and that included a very good fillet steak). Service in all of the restaurants was quicker than we have found in at lot of other hotels and all the staff we had dealings with were very pleasant. Often we didn't have lunch due to the fact that we were still full from breakfast therefore once we had finished on the beach (normally about 4pm) we would go and have something to eat at the pool restaurant and again this was really good quality and all included in the fully inclusive price. The scented rose water sprayed on you to cool you down was wonderful, also the glass cleaning service and the strawberries went down very well. We wanted to relax on this holiday therefore the location was perfect for us, though Naama Bay is easy to get to by taxi or hotel minibus if you want a bit more night life.

Theweek we were there the weather had improved from the previous week and temps were about 23' everyday, which was lovely sunbathing weather and we even managed to go snorkelling in the sea. The main swimming pool was a bit too cold for me but my husband did go for a swim in there a couple of times and said it was 'refreshing'! The heated pool was really nice to swim in, though it is quite small therefore does tend to get a bit busy at times.

Some reviewers have commented on the fact that the Spa Staff are always on the beach/by the swimming pool trying to sell their massages, and I must admit this is really annoying. Leaving information in your room on what massages are available and prices would have tempted me a lot more, than the constant hard sell tactics they use. Never seen anyone sign up for a massage the whole time we were there!

It would also be nice if the hotel offered room service (think members of the Pharoah Club have this option but not sure) as there were a couple of nights we would have preferred just to eat in our room. We did enquire about upgrading to the aforementioned Pharoah Club but decided that at 13 euros a day wasn't really worth it for us. We never go back to the same hotel even if we do go to the same resort but I really think if we did return to Sharm we would go back to the Iberotel.

“Excellent laid back holiday”

We had a beautiful room by the pool, with nice sorroundings and view. The best for us were the breakfast with the view and the dinner in terrace at the evening sunset. I recommend for a romantic getaway and if you are just planning to stay in the hotel to relax. Otherwise there is not much to do outside. Inconvenience is the access to the sea and the average age of the guests (around 50 year old)

A friend and I spent Christmas and New Year in this hotel. The whole experience was fantastic. The food was great, rooms very clean, the staff were really helpful and friendly.

We had a fabulous holiday.

There was a really big effort made for Hogmanay - a stage was built and a big show put on. We had no idea that this was happening before we booked this hotel, it was a very pleasant surprise.

I would definately go back to Egypt and this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

“Nice holiday but not 5 star”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

A group of 5 adults and 2 children stayed at the Grand Sharm for Christmas. Whilst we all had a good time, I dont think any of us would return.

Dont get me wrong but there were only a few small things that just made it an average holiday.

On arrial we were shown to our sea view room.......great view shame about the awlful stale smoke smell in our non smoking room. Also as a married couple we were disappointed to see 2 single beds and not a double. Had there only been one problem it would have been fine but as non smokers the smell was quite offensive (one of our party was a smoker and did think the smell was overpowering!). Anyway credit to the staff who did move us to a perfect room after the first night.

The grounds are so well kept and all 7 of us had no trouble finding sunbeds together no matter what time we got up even thought the hotel was full. The main pool was freezing though so we only swam in the sea and heated pool. Snorkelling was great and dive staff helpful.....one of our party stupidly lost his room key whilst snorkelling and one of the dive guys retreived it when he took some people out on a dive off the jetty!!!!! Unbelievable!

The main gripe is the lack of bars in the evening. There was often no waiters to be seen so we had to go up to the bar which was not a problem for us but was for the bar staff. They got very rude when we ordered from the bar and told us we had to wait until someone came and took our order at our table. There was also very limited seating inside, which was a shame as some nights were a bit windy and just a little too chilly to sit outside comfortably. The entertainment was poor but was not a big issue for us. Totally recommed the dinner on the beach...great ambience and great food. Well worth the extra pennies

Overall the hotel was great, rooms good, location fab but just a few things need fine tuning to gain its 5 star status.

Dont worry if you are going there.....you will have a good time Enjoy!

“Fantastic”

Iberotel Grand Sharm

We have stayed in Iberotel Grand Sharm for two weeks from 20 November and all I can say it was absolutely fantastic!

The buffet each evening was different as they had different country themes, so I don't think I had the same dinner in the whole two weeks. There is a chef who cooks pasta for you with your chosen ingredients, as well as a chef in the morning who can cook eggs as you like. We made friends with pancake chef, who was really nice, so each morning he cooked fresh pancakes for us. In the evenings you could get a barbeque which was cooked outside the restaurant. Now the service. We found the service quite good (as to Egyptian standards), the waiters were really smiley and helpful. We always got the table in restaurant and I must admit I was really amazed how well they looked after the buffet and how organised it was! So the food was really good. You have to sign the bills everywhere, but that's what you do in all normal hotels, isn't it? We went to the other (the Italian) restaurant only once, but I didn't like it too much and it was a bit overpriced as well...

The most amazing thing we had was the Romantic dinner on the beach - it was really very good, it was about only 6 tables just on the beach lighted with candles and romantic music playing (well I don't like cheesy things, but that was really good!!) We had our own waiter who looked after us really well.

We spend all the time in the beach which I really liked, so we tried to get sun loungers at the front row with no shadows on. For that we had to wake up at 7am and go to put our towels on the loungers we wanted. It sounds early, but if you think that the sun starts going down at 4pm its just the right time to get some sun tan! Also there was a guy who was cleaning your sunglasses and another one who sprayed you with rose water. There was also a chef walking around and giving everybody fresh melon or strawberries dipped in chocolate.

The room was very nice, we had a problem with the terrace door lock and they fixed it minutes after we reported! The houskeeping were leaving towels made into swans and snakes with rose petals on our bed each day.

The hotel is indeed full of Russians, but I wouldn't say they were rude or too demanding. More likely quiet Russians as in other places they are much more horrible. It is probably just something you have to deal with and if you are not ready to, don't go to Sharm then at all as it is the first place to go for Russians.

We really really enjoyed our stay and we are thinking of going to this hotel again as it was fantastic. But if you expect a Hilton or Marriot 5* style, this isn't the place to go. On the other words - you get what you pay.
