“Charged for fun”

Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort

11 Jun 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

Upon arrival to Egypt I was greeted with swarms of people clawing to do you a favor, give you information, or take you in their taxi in order to get a tip or charge you. I had hoped this spirit of charging would stop at the Hilton resort. While the staff did not ask or expect tips, there were charges on most all activities outside the animation schedule. To sit in the steamroom, jacuzzi or sauna, you have to pay six euros either per day or per hour. To use the gym you have to pay twelve euros a day. To play ping pong, tennis, soccer or volleyball, you have to pay. A resort that is full of people, with the potential of having fun activities happening all around throughout the day, is trumped by the tax on fun. The free parts of the resort are the pools and access to the sea.

The sea was great. We snorkeled off the pier and played cards on the lawn chairs. We avoided eating at the dinner buffet because it was way overpriced for the area. You can walk down the street, past the mall that has starbucks and find a good restaurant. Also, there are restaurants in that mall that are less than the buffet. Room service isn't expensive and is good. The oriental noodles were decent as well as the pizzas.

In Nama Bay there is great Lebanese food (Egyptian food) above the hard rock cafe. We ate there twice and both times it was great.. the Fetta dish is really good.

If you are going to take excursions, avoid the trip to Mt. Moses (Mt. Sinai) unless you are ready for a serious mountain climb.. or rent a camel. But my husband did not because the guy that sold it to us in the Hotel mall, told us it was included, so we didnt bring enough money for two. It was a 3 and a half hour walk up a mountain in the middle of the night. Not the most pleasant thing to do when you are sold something totally different.

BEWARE of people selling you trips. We went through DREAMS in the mall, and were sold a trip promising to be relaxing, warm with a camel ride. It ended up being freezing cold, when we were told to dress for very hot weather. We had to rent blankets on the mountain (they obviously knew people came unprepared) We were told we didnt need to bring money, as everything was included. I had to rent a camel for fifteen euros. The breakfast was barely edible at a rundown hotel near the mountain, and you had to buy drinks.

I would recommend avoiding Dreams Entertainment in the mall. However the trip by plane to Cairo was good through them.. dont trust what they say about the trip. In the lobby there were books for other companies.

The Cleo Park is really fun and inexpensive. I definitely recommend going. They have plates of freshly cut watermelon you can buy that are great. This was definitely worth it.

All and all the trip was fun.. I just thought I would warn you of the few disappointments we ran into. I was very happy to return home after 10 days in Hilton Waterfalls Sharm.. but Im glad to have went.

“Relaxing location”

Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort

I have just returned from a relaxing break at the Hilton Waterfalls.
Can't really fault any aspect of my stay.
The Hotel is in a great location away from the bustle of Narma Bay but close enough if you wish to experience it.
Small clean beach with decent snorkling
The rooms are large and comfortable. We stayed on a B&B basisand found plenty restraunts close in the near vicinity.

Staff at the Hotel were attentive and very friendly and helpful.
Mohamed at tha Chlllax pool was a gem .
I would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel to friends and family

It is a great hotel in everything, I went there for my 2nd stay in my honeymoon,i accomodated in a BB basis the stuff was very freindly they provide us an early check in without any prior notice & we found a very delicious wedding cake, choclates & fruit basket in the room. Everything was clean & cleaned everyday & the view was gergeous from the room, the pool was large & clean. The beach was also good beach, it is quite & clean also. I liked the telefric idea from the rooms to the reception & the beach i really loved it. Food was very good, the hotel is a quiet hotel what it needs is some shows or entertainment but as hotel standards it is a great hotel, it has a good location just beside the Alf Leila W Leila it is a building like the ancient arab buildings & inside there are people that make different kind of shows & dancing, also there are some boutiques for Souvenir inside it & it is just 5 minutes driving from the hotel

“Fantastic Holiday”

A weeks relaxing holiday for myself and my daughter.

We had a lovely room (2805) - the one's actually attached to the hotel seem better - staying on a BB basis. We found if you went to breakfast after 9pm it was less crowded, usual choice: eggs cooked to your liking, toast, cereal, fruit, cold meats, pastries etc.,
We can highly recommend Verdis' Italian bistro, the food is first class and the service is excellent. We also ate at the seafood and Lebanese restaurants, I'm not a seafood fan but my daughter is and she also rated this highly

On leaving the hotel if you turn right at the gates, on the oposite side of the road you come to a shopping 'mall'. I didn't find this very pleasant at all, constantly hassled to go in their shops to the point of our way being blocked, and at one time being circled! Would never ever entice me in, I know it's their way of doing things, but very off putting not to say intimidating for two females.

Naarma Bay was slightly better, we used the hotel taxi to get there 50le about £5 and the same back - but do tell the driver what you are willing to pay, he tried to charge us 70le but on insisting it was only 50le, he accepted it.

On the whole it was a wonderful week, just what we wanted a week of doing absolutely nothing!!!!

Last year in July I was in this hotel and it was really great.
Staff are great, really so much things to do in hotel. The favorite one to me is snorkeling on the beach. It was really great experience to see so much diferent things in the see.
Rooms are clean, and spacious, teraces also... The best thing to relax is to be on the Chiliax pool, where is always enough places to lay down... I wuld really recommend this hotel to everyone.
Food was OK, do not eat fruits and vegetables and you will not have any stomach problems. It is not gilty the food in hotel, it is because of water that we as Europeans are not just to it.

So avoid to eat fruits that you haven't peel of, and avoid fresh vegetables you will not have any problem.

Enyoj your stay at Waterfalls!!!

P.S. Do not forget your masks for snorkeling, you will be sorry...
