This is probably the closest I have come to giving a Hotel Complex' a 5 rating, but being a critical swine the Fayrouz gets a 4.5 rating from me.
To me this hotel just makes the 4 star grade, but the location, cleanliness and service is 5 star.
This is truly a fantastic complex, perfectly located for the beach and the bustling centre of Naama bay, but yet still providing a relaxed and peaceful setting.
The service is attentive without being intrusive, the gardens and hotel resort are exceptionally well kept and very clean, the rooms are of a good size are comfortable have satellite tv, tea and coffee making facilities a safe and a mini bar (which was very reasonable) We had a ground floor room opening onto the pool with the bridge which was cleaned on a daily basis.
Having been fortunate enough to go 'out of the school holiday period' the Hotel was relatively quiet (probably 60% full) and we never had a problem getting either poolside or beach beds, I could however imagine the pools and beach getting rather busy when the hotel is booked up.
The breakfast buffet offered a very good choice, from omelettes, salads, fruits, breads, yoghurts and endless coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. For those wanting an English breakfast there is beef bacon and beef sausages.
The hotel has 3 restaurants (Italian, Fish and Buffet) of which we only ate at the Italian which was pretty good (if not exactly Italian), and a few bars scattered around - of which for us the Pirates Bar was the pick, providing a good selection of snacks, a very friendly welcome and a relaxed atmosphere.
The hotel resort has a prime position centrally located on the sea front with what appears to be the largest stretch of private beach all to itself. Towels for both the beach and each one of its pools are supplied by the Hotel at no extra charge.
Between the hotel and the beach is a pedestrian promenade which runs down to central Naama bay (approx 10 min walk). The promenade plays host to an assortment of beech bars and restaurants.
Alternatively for a bit more excitement head into central Naama bay - although by my own experience avoid the Mexican and the Lebanese restaurant.
The Sinai Casino is worth a mention for a fun night and oddly enough is where we had our best meal. A meal followed by a tipple on the tables and free entertainment - although be aware the waitress served drinks are expensive, make the effort and go to the bar yourselves.
The only tour operator we found that offer this hotel is Hayes and Jarvis, although booking flights and hotel separately is pretty easy. Thompson, XL airlines and First Choice fly from Manchester.
In short an excellent hotel resort, providing exceptional service and offering a location for those who wish to either 'chill' or party.
There's only a few places in the world where we have returned to, and this is high on our list for a return.
General Tips;
We took a dettol hand spray with us, and used it prior to eating - we never suffered any stomach upsets. Although more than office this is caused by too much sun and not enough water. We also ate all the local salad and fruit which is fantastic and never suffered, so don't be put off their fresh produce it is far better than our own.
If you travelling in winter months (nov to end march), it gets chilly on a night. I personally wouldn't consider travelling here in July & August - it is apparently stifling.
Don't bother with newspapers, they are very expensive and hey your on holiday who cares what the weathers like at home!
There are loads of places to eat so always look for the busy restaurants, you are better waiting 30 mins to be seated, than being seated immediately at a poor restaurant (as we found out twice!!).
Don't listen to people who say they prefer the US$...they don't - they want to be paid in their own currency...wouldn't you? Whilst we where there we got a better rate of exchange from the ATM machines...and it was a lot easier than changing travellers cheques.
Unless your planning to leave Sharm don't bother getting a visa at the airport, if you do change your mind you can get these at the resort.
Keep low denomination notes for tipping ,5 & 10 EP (50p and £1), and when you have received good service please tip!! I was amazed to see the amount of people who didn't - although this was mainly people from a particular Eastern Country. We gave our cleaner the equivalent of £10.00 (GPB) the day before we left and he nearly did a back flip.
Go snorkling - in particular on a boat trip, unfortunately the coral reefs by Naama bay have been eroded by us Tourists, although there's still plenty to see. There are plenty of places selling cheap goggles and snorkels etc - there not great quality but they do the job and you can always leave them there.
The Egyptian people are a fantastic proud race, but can come across very forceful when trying to sell you something - it's their way that's all. They don't understand window shopping, so if your not looking to buy something just don't bother. If you are smile and get ready to haggle.
Learn a little Arabic - please, thank you, hello, goodbye - the locals find it hilarious and respect you for making the effort.
If your going by taxi agree the price first, and only use the registered ones.
If your caught short whilst out and about, we found it best to walk to the nearest hotel and use their facilities (especially for women), as the local w.c's can be lacking in cleanliness and toilet paper.
The airport at Sharm is an experience when returning home (unless your travelling through the new terminal which I believe only serves British Airways?) It will be undoubtly be packed out with other travellers and seats are at a premium, so if all fails grab a piece of the floor and make camp. As you are unable to take any liquids through expect to pay a small fortune for any water or drinks, but remember you can take your own snacks through. Unless your buying cigarettes I wouldn't advice buying anything from duty free - booze and perfumes not that cheap, and I spotted a family bag of m&m's for £4.50 (GPB) !
Other than all the above, its best you work out the rest for yourself...otherwise where's the fun?
Enjoy....
