I've come back to a cold and wet UK after spending a week with the guys at the Camel Club from the 4th till the 11th of July.
It was absolutely fantastic and I did not want to leave.
Having done only an introduction dive in Cuba last year I liked it so much that I decided to go for my Open Water Course this year. I checked out diving on Google which pointed me to The Red Sea and then straight to the Camel Club. I chose Camel for it's great reviews online. I booked on line and they were really helpful with my (novice) questions. I originally wanted to go with my son but he broke his wrist just before we would go and could not come. I ended up taking my brother on the trip and we had a great time.
We were met at the airport by Ramadan from the hotel transfer service. Really nice guy and ever so friendly (thanks again for retreiving my wallet which I left in your van after you dropped us off at the airport to go home).
The hotel is great. We had a nice, clean and spatious room on the ground floor next to the pool which was great. Although the pool is not that big and designed for diving instruction is was great to just dive in and cool down a bit in the late afternoon after having been on the sea all day. The hotel is in the middle of Sharm and close to the Pasha Nightclub but it is soo quiet and serene inside. No noise from the town what so ever, but of course we slept really well with all the diving during the day. We were introduced to Amer the next morning as our diving instructor and it immediately clicked well with him. He is a friendly guy and in for a laugh but also very capable. He made taking the course a fun and easy experience. His teaching is clear and very confident, he knows his stuff and we felt totally confident with him.
We did the course in 4 days, day at the pool, day on the boat, day at the pool, day on the boat. This made it fun and exciting as we got to get into the sea on the second day. Saw a blue spotted Stingray on my first sea dive. Course went well and we also took the Nitrox course while we were there. After the four day course we had two more days to dive and we used them well, doing 3 dives on a day. We went to Ras Mohammed, did the Shark dive but sadly they did not show up. It was a new experience though to just hang there in the Blue with only water around you waiting for sharks to show up. Makes you feel small when you are there out in the Deep Blue. Also did some great drift dives on the Shark and Yolanda reef and, boy, those were so good. Gotta stay close to the reef though as the current is quite strong and the moment you get away from the reef a bit you have to swim to get close again. I used a lot of air doing that.
I also dived with John and with Vicky and they were great and professional to have around too.
The whole experience was utterly professional and great fun to do. I never felt uneasy or unsafe at any time.
I will now go back at the end of August with the family and I am more than happy to leave my son (whose wrist has now healed) in their care for his Open Water Course, so we can be dive buddies on many holidays to come. While he does his OW course I will do some more specialty dives to try and become Master Scuba Diver.
I would like to thank all the staff at the Camel Club and especially Amer. You made this holiday and OW course such a good, safe and fun experience (hate the picture you took for the certificate card, you did that on purpose). Thanks again for everything, man. You're the greatest.
Did I mention that the Camel bar and roof is the best bar with the best atmosphere in the whole of Sharm ? Well, it is. I went to Pasha and to the Hard Rock Cafe but I preferred the Camel bar by far. Hard Rock was ok but Pasha is a rip off.
The food in the hotel is great and good value for money. The Pomodor restaurant serves some really good dishes and not expensive at all.
Breakfast and lunch buffet had a wide choice of different fresh foods, again really good.
Will I come back ? Yes, of course. There is so much more to see and enjoy in Sharm and I will always do my diving there with you guys from the Camel Dive Club. Thanks again for your hospitality.
I can highly recommend this Hotel and Dive Club to everyone who wants to go diving in Sharm and the Red Sea.
Regards,
Rob
