“Not a hotel for the British! Not recommended”

Tropicana Grand Oasis Resort

My boyfriend and i stayed at the TGO for a week in Early October 2007 and i have to be honest, we did not enjoy the stay at all. I really would not recommend this hotel - esp if you are British. Without giving you a blow by blow account of the problems we encounter, i will try and summarise them for you. 1) We were one of only four British couple we came across all week. The rest were all Italian or Russian. While i have nothing personally against the these nationalities, i did not really enjoyed being totally outnumbered by them, found their table manners awful (they would go and get three plates of food piled high during meal time and then only eat half and leave it all over the table!) and the men (not to mention numerous women) in thongs got a little repetitive after a while! 2) The reception staff are rude and unhelpful. On our first day, we had problems with outrsafe and it took 4 phone calls and two hours to get someone to us. We also bought a diving video which was left at reception and when we went to collect it we were told it wasn't there when they didn't look. That was just two incidents - really, they are awful 3) The water is yellow - i stayed at the Hilton sharks bay last year and the water was not yellow so its not something that occurs in every hotel 4)The food is abysmal - really, its gross! I lived off pasta and bread the whole time. Plus the wine is vile. 5) the hotel is generally very run down - i guess you could argue it is 3 star standard but we didn't like it, and finally 6) you get hassled all the time by the pool and beach to buy massages, water sports, join in with aerobics etc. They just don't go away and its all day every day. Plus, they play chavvy dance music by the pool all day and night which is very annoying. So, in total i would not recommend this hotel, esp is you are British. Friends stayed at the Four Seasons which i would highly recommend (if you can afford it - its really is unadulterated luxury), my sister stayed at the Iberotel palace for her honeymoon which she said was brilliant and even the hilton sharks bay is way better. We tried to move on the second day but every where was full up - thats how much we disliked it. I really would not recommend this hotel at all.

“Loved it!”

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Tropicana Grand Oasis, the hotel was great. We spent 2 whole weeks relaxing by the pool. The staff are really helpful and cant do enough for you, we did tip them little and often but they really dont expect tips. We always got a sun lounger and sun shade when we were round the pool and the pool boys are really helpful and if you find a place where you want to lay on your lounger they will move everything around so you can lay there. Although the entertainment team is mostly aimed at the Itailians and Russians, we never felt left out and they were always coming to see us and having a chat making sure that we were ok. The food was ok, im really picky with what i eat but i managed to find something every meal time.
We went on the Aquascope Submarine which is advertised in the hotel Lobby, this was £25 per person. It sounds expensive but it was well worth the money.
The rooms are cleaned daily, with new towels everyday too - they even changed the shower curtain every 2 days!!!! All the maids are men but dont let this put you off, they are really friendly.
We didnt really spend much time on the beach as it was really really hot down there, we did pop down to the jety on a few occasions though to take pictures of the fish. It was amazing!!!! and suggest going down there to look at the fish.

All in all the holiday was excellent and i am returning next year.

“A Fabulous Hotel”

Me and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel for a week mid Aug this year and were gutted to find out we could not extend our stay as this was the best holiday we've had.

From the moment we arrived we were made so feel so welcome by any staff we come across, especially Hany & Ahmed @ the Beach Bar, Mahmoud @ the Pool Bar & Mohammed @ the lobby bar (definately a trend here).

The room was very clean, spacious well maintained, air con was a god send as its needed so much. The weather was amazing at its hottest it was 48 degrees C so high factor sun cream was a must. The pool area was perfect and we never had trouble getting a couple of sun loungers, all we had to do was give you towel cards to the staff and they set your loungers up where ever you want and make sure you have an umbrella & table.

Food was nice although it is quite busy in the main restaurant at lunch and dinner but food is constantly being brought out so theres plenty to eat, the other restaurants were very nice aswell although you do have to book in advance.

You really are treated with a lot of respect from the staff there who would do anything for you. Tips are appreciated but not expected and the staff never ceased to make us smile.

All in all this is a fabulous hotel and I would reccomend to anyone, we've booked another week in December with another couple we know & also 2 weeks next Aug as we love it so much.

Just returned from our fourth visit to the Tropicana Grand Oasis. Biggest asset this hotel has, apart from the chandelier, is the staff. Treat them as people and not servants and you will have a memorable holiday.
Reception staff are efficient and helpful, as are all lobby staff. Waiters at all bars and restaurents will respond positively to a smile and a chat.
Small tips are appreciated but not expected.
Meals are fine, good choice but the menu repeats every week, we had no problems with upset stomachs but we were very careful about hand washing and avoiding food that the sometimes unsupervised children had been handling.
Pool staff work hard to keep the sunbathers happy, when the hotel is full there can be a sunbed shortage.
Bedrooms are a good size with air-conditioning, the (male) cleaners take a huge pride in thier work and nothing appears too much trouble for them.
We would recommend this hotel and will be returning in 2008. Remember, it is Egypt and it is not a five star.
Strange thing....several of the shops in the lobby advertise a discount to Italian guests, perhaps they do not want English customers, because of this, they did not get my custom and I bought in Naama instead!

“perfect in every way...”

Tropicana Grand Oasis Resort

I stayed at this wonderful Hotel along with my boyfriend and our two best friends for two weeks early in Sep.
Tropicana Grand Oasis is the perfect name for this Hotel from the moment we arrived we knew we had chosen the perfect place for our stay in Egypt.
The Hotel staff at reception were very quick in allocating our rooms which were by the main upstairs restaurant these overlooked the pool area which was all lit up as we arrived at night beautiful.. our luggage arrived shortly after..
We woke up the first morning of our holiday to beautiful hot sunny weather we had temp's between 35 to high 40's during our stay.
We did book some excursions with Thomson who we travelled with...
A Night Under the Stars which we did on My Birthday was good looking at the stars through telescopes and having a bed-win meal in their camp.. When we arrived back to the Hotel room the staff had placed a big chocolate birthday cake for me and an anniversary cake for our friends which were lovely..

Two of us swam with the dolphins which was brilliant has been a dream of mine.. we did read some bad things about this but the three dolphins are very well looked after and they don't know any different as they were born in captivity.

we travelled to Cairo by road which was very tiring as you leave at midnight to arrive at Cairo in the morning a long drive but well worth it.. Once we arrived at the Giza Pyramids we were allowed to go inside for a small fee or just stand and take photo's which we opted for.. we also saw the Sphinx. (please note that there are locals trying to sell everything they can here just need to be polite and say No.)
The Papyrus museum is about the plant that they then turn into paper so they can use it for painting on.(These are lovely paintings and we did purchase two.) the ones at the hotel were not as good quality.
We visited the museum in Cairo which was well worth seeing all the ancient treasures of Tutankhamun.( no camera equipment allowed in the museum but was OK to leave in the coach.)
Dinner was on the River Nile a buffet style lunch.
A trip around the market to finish off the trip..

Quad biking was the1st time for me, I've never had so much fun and laughed so much well worth doing..

Naama bay by night was OK a free excursion which took you in to Naama we went to a few clubs and bars.. were not told that we would have to find our own way back to hotel and had to take a white knuckle ride in one of the taxis never again was awful..

On our last night we had a meal back in Naama bay on a floating jetty which was a perfect end to our holiday..

The pool at the hotel was perfect enough sun loungers for all and was very clean pool staff very friendly and would greet you with your towels..

The beach area was fantastic man made beach with a floating jetty we spent the mornings here as not that busy.. snorkeling is a must as the fish are beautiful. Beach bar staff are really lovely.. The cocktails they did in the evening were very good..

The meals in the main restaurant were OK you could always find something to eat even for the fussy eaters like my boyfriend.. breakfast was the best meal of the day as was lunch.
watch out for the very rude Russians at mealtimes pushing people out the way and being very greedy with the amount they put on their plate and then left in Un-touched this really annoyed me as us British don't like wasting food..
The Italian which is down by the pool served the best meals we visited this when we could as you have to book early in the morning's also serve pool snacks which were OK..

Entertainment was the only downfall as was in Italian and not that good.

Rooms were lovely and spacious and kept very clean.

Look out for Sammy who was the Bar Manager he was lovely and friendly always kept an eye out for us during our stay.
the boys in the Perfume shop were quite entertaining too..

We loved our stay at this fantastic Hotel and would love to go back with out a doubt..
