We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 6 nights at the end of a 2 week trip round Eygpt. After the 'hustle and bustle' of Cairo and the endless sightseeing in Luxor we wanted somewhere where we could relax and top up our sun tans!! We definately found that!
We booked to stay in the regency club rooms and felt it was worth the extra money. As soon as we arrived we were whisked off on a golf buggy for a private check in at the regency club. the staff were very friendly offering us a cold drink and showing us the map of the resort. We were allocated a room on the 1st floor with a great view of the Red Sea so i was pleased about that.
The room itself was lovely. Very modern with a big flat screen tv, huge bed and a great oversized balcony, along with all the usual things, mini bar etc!! The bathroom was realy nice too. It was the first time i've been to a hotel where the photo in the brochure actually looked like the room we were staying in!
Being regency club guests we were entitled to use the regency club pool! This was nice as it was quiet and away from the noisier main pool area. The pool butlers worked really hard ensuring everyone had a sunbed, bringing complementary soft drinks throughout the day as well as fresh fruit and cold towels. They would also order food for you at lunch time which was a nice touch as it saved going back to the room to order room service. We tipped them everyday as we felt they deserved it!
We found the food to be very good! Breakfast was my favourite with a great choice of everything you could possibly imagine. most hotels offer a wide choice in their buffet breakfasts but this was something else. The food quality was excellent and very fresh! We ordered room service a few times as we found this to be good quality and it meant we could stop in at night and watch a film. We did go to the Souk a couple of times and also found this to be good. There is a coin system which some people seemed to find confusing but we had no troubles. We made reservations at the Thai reasturant on our last night and this was excellent. It was expensive but no more than any other 5 star hotel.
Another benefit of staying in the regency club rooms was that there were complimentary cocktails and canapes for a couple of hours each evening! There was a selection of cakes, sushi, breadsticks and nibbles as well as top brand spirits and mixers which you were free to have as you wished! Soft drinks were complimentary all day long which we found saved us a fortune!!
The highlight of the hotel for me was the snorkelling! the house reef was amazing. There was a jetty from the beach to the reef so you could take your snorkel and get straight in. There was a huge variety of fish all shapes and sizes and i even saw a lion fish!! I took my underwater housing for my camera and got some amazing photo's. It appeared that a lot of boats going on snorkelling trips actually came to our reef so there was no need to go on any trips.
We went out of the hotel one night and took a taxi to Naama bay! That was the worst thing we did! In my opinion it was awfull, tacky and full of 'loud british holiday makers' We stayed for about 20 mins if that and then ventured back to the hotel!
If you're looking to visit Egypt to sample the Egyptain way of life then Sharm is not the place to do it! You could be anywhere in the world in a nice hotel! To see what Egypt's about you need to see Cairo or Luxor. If you're looking for all year round sun or a relaxing break then this is the place and the Hyatt Regency is an excellent choice! I definately recommend the Regency club for that extra bit of Luxury!
If you have any questions about anything I will be happy to help!
