We are a couple from Bulgaria. 27/40 years old.
Just came back after a week in the "grand" Rotana. This was our second trip to Egypt after a vacation in El Ghouna, last October. I'll try to briefly summarize my view on this hotel:
Bad:
- This hotel was build in 2005 but lobby looks already depreciated, especially furnitures, so you start wondering just from the beginning if this is the right hotel.
- Not a friendly and helpful staff at front desk. They smile only if they see a busty blond girl coming. At arrival I needed to call reception 2 times to get our luggage to the room and finally went back to reception to find it staying there. At the end of our stay we were left with no takeaway breakfast for our early check out, because at 8.30 PM they told us that already gave a list to the restaurant for tomorrows breakfast packages and it is not possible to change it ... it's funny how many hours they need to prepare 2 sandwiches...
- Housekeeping: first day they left us without any towels with the excuse that they will bring towels later because they don't have any clean now. When we came from the beach no towels were in the room. After 3 calls to the housekeeping the towels came, but first they brought 1 and after another 1.30 hours, the second one. I assume this is trick to get a tip, as I read for this problem in some of the other reviews for this hotel. I left a tip next morning and everything went back to normal.
- I almost burned my left feet, when trying to take a shower, because a boiling water came out from the cold water crane of the shower. In few minutes all the bathroom was in steam, including coming from the toilet. After my second call to reception, 2 guys came to fix the problem. They turned some switches in the corridor and in about 30 min. a normal cold water was running in the bathroom. No any excuses at all ... Of course big signs on the main alleys are warning the guests that the hotel management can't be held responsible for anything that may happen here, for any reason - injuries, thefts, even fatalities ... so what to complain about :)
- Food: I like the Arabic food, but what was served in the main restaurant Ramses, especially for dinner was not tasty at all. Very limited choice fruits. We went to the Old market in town to buy some exceptional fruits at very low price - strawberries, apricots, apples.
- Guests are mainly Russians, no bad feeling at all, but sometimes they are very loud on the beach. Few times we needed to move to the far end of the beach in order to escape from this noise. Despite that we met a lovely Russian young couple and we had good time snorkeling with them.
- Room: average, not very large, only Arabic TV channels, depreciated furniture.
Good:
- Generally clean hotel, having in mind the Egypt standards
- Very beautiful house reef, with a lot of fish.
- Silk Road restaurant
- Good and large pool
- Well maintained gardens and beach area.
- Nice view from the room - 3rd floor of the "Premier Beach front" building
I hope this info will be helpful.
