I recently stayed at the Palmyra Resort for 2 weeks as part of a fmaily holiday, including 3 children aged 1 - 11. It was one of the most enjoyable holidays i have ever experienced and the hotel and staff are excellent. There is a Doctor and Pharmacy available 24hrs if you should need one.
Rooms
Quite basic but with a TV, refridgerator and ample wardrobe space. Lovely pool views from every room. Shower was a bit small but fine. Cleaned spotlessly everyday, with towels and sheets changed everyday too. You can borrow a hairdryer from reception and there is a free safety deposit box available in a room next to reception. Rafak the housekeeper made some wonderful towel sculptures from swans to crocodiles.
Pools
There are 3 large pools which are vigorously cleaned daily. Plenty of sunbeds available no need to reserve them. Clean towels are provided, just give them your towel card which you get from reception when you check in. Pools were fairly cold but this could be due to it being March, however the childrens pool was heated.
There is an "Oriental corner" where you can chill out and watch TV. You can smoke a shisha pipe in there and they did play live football during the day sometimes.
Beach
It is a ten minute bus journey to the hotel beach, (the hotel provide a free shuttle bus every hour). Soft drinks and sandwiches available as part of the all inclusive, although there are other restaurants at the beach. It is dessert sand so quite gritty but we bought some beach shoes for £3.50 from the hotel shop which were good. Sea is warm and the snorkelling is excellent.
Location
The hotel is a bit out of the way but they do provide a free shuttle bus to the beach. they also provide one to naama bay on an evening which you need to book the morning of the day you want to travel. There is also a free shuttle bus to the old market on a sunday. Taxi prices are reasonable however, £7 to the airport and £12 return from naama bay. The taxi man (Yosef) will give you his mobile number for you to phone and book taxis with him and to pick you up later that day / night.
Do be weary of the shops 15 mins down the road as they are very pushy and you do get a lot of hassle from them.
Food
We thought the food here was perfectly good with something for everyone and was all very hot and thoroughly cooked.
Breakfast- there was a selection of breads, pastries, Eggs and omellettes made to order, cold meats and cheeses, fruits, yogharts and hot and cold drinks
Lunch - Sandwiches made to order, soups, Pasta which the chef would cook while you waited with your choice of ingredients salads etc. and choices of cakes for afters
3 -4pm Cakes and pastries were served in the hotel lobby
Dinner - Plenty to choose from, meats veg, pasta again cooked by the chef. lasagne was on a few times, lovely salads, cheeses and cakes etc.
There was a kids section every meal time too.
Shops
There were many shops in the hotel where you could buy pretty much anything you wanted. The shop owners were very friendly and helpful. There is also a jewellry store and a Bag shop too. I got all my presents for home from the hotel shops.
Staff
All the staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for you. They are probably the friendliest and hardworking people you will ever meet.
Restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and knew your drink within a couple of days of you being there. They are great with the kids too.
Housekeeping and pool attendants were very efficient, everything was spotlessly cleaned. They even fumigate twice a day, but the smoke isnt harmful and didnt bother us.
The Animation team were fantastic, very friendly and hardworking. Titto, Sasha, Haya, Sima and Adam were a big hit, both kids and adults loved them, as they were always happy, they get to know everyone. They provide a wide range of activities during the day, Water polo, volleyball, football, ping pong, darts, water aerobics, french bowls etc. There is also a kids club "Trixie kids club" for the little ones and 2 playgrounds with climbing frames etc. They try to get everyone involved, but arent too pushy. On an evening they have a kids disco from 8.30-9.00 where they do kids dances atc, its a lot of fun. Then afterwards they have entertainment and shows such as Bingo, Moulin Rouge, Traditional dancing, Game shows where the audience get involved etc. Very enjoyable. After the show the disco stays open and there is a great variety of music playing until around 1am.
Drinks
Wide selection of drinks throughout the day and night. hot drinks (coffee, hot chocolate and many different teas) Plenty of soft drinks to choose from. Lager. Kids cocktails. Adults Cocktails. Spirits. However the spirits are very strong and to me all tasted the same. This wasnt a problem for me though didnt feel i needed the alcohol.
Aircraft noise.
There was some aircraft noise but it didnt really affect our holiday, it doesnt last long and isnt constant.
Excursions
There are many excursions to enjoy. You can book these through the hotel.
We went on the Bedoin trip which is amazing i would recomend you go on it to see the traditional ways of living followed by stargazing which is very interesting.
We went on a submarine, saw many of the fish and corals out there, again i would recomend this too.
We also went to the water park, this too is very enjoyable and there is stuff there for the kids and adults. Plenty of slides to enjoy.
I would definately recomend this hotel to anyone and can honestly say we all had a fantastic time, we were sad to be coming home. We will be coming back to Egypt and will definately be staying in the Palmyra Resort again. Excellent Value for money.
