“Excellent holiday at the Baron”

Baron Resort Sharm El Sheikh

We keep going back to the Baron because we have never been disappointed. The hotel is kept immaculately clean, the rooms are spacious, comfortable, quiet and have a magnificent view (at least the one looking East). We found both management and service staff courteous and always willing to help. We do not use the swimming pool and, therefore, do not have much to say about it but the beach is one of the best in that stretch of the Sinai coast: it is long, clean and not overcrowded. Access to the sea and reef is easy; the water is clean and if you prepared to swim 10 yards or so away from the jetty, one can spend hours snorkeling without having to fight one's way trough a sea of fins and elbows.
Over the year the clientele of the Baron has changed but I do not feel it is reasonable to haul over the coals the staff for the questionable manners of some of the guests.
We have recommended the Baron to our friends and colleagues and we hope to go back this year.

Went with an Arab tour group during Eid holiday. The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated, and every member of the staff was helpful and friendly. Nice beach, not too crowded, plenty of amenities, dive instructors, snorkel rental, nice pools as well, but the snorkling at the hotel's beach was beautiful so I didn't bother with the pools. Getting a shuttle ride into Sharm (the resort was a little outside of town) was easy, and we simply took a cheap cab ride back in the evening which was easier than worrying about making a shuttle. The hotel also set us up with a tour to a Monastery a few hours way near Moses mountain which was interesting, a nice way to see more of Sinai. Staff also made good suggestions for nightlife and places to see, both in Sharm itself, as well as in the surrounding area. Nice running path along the Sea, partially in construction areas during my visit, but was nice. Restaurant was excellent. Highly recommend Baron's and Sharm el Sheikh.

“Great Relaxing Holiday”

Baron Resort Sharm El Sheikh

29 Jun 2008
2/3 found this review helpful

We booked to stay at the Baron Palms next door, as did every other English couple we spoke to, but we were glad to get moved to the Baron Resort in the end.

We've been to Sharm before so we knew what to expect with regards to food and nightlife etc. The food here was good, we are both vegetarians and we had plenty of choice everyday. They always had rice, potatos, veg, pastas, salads, soups as well as all the meat and fish options. We booked the Italian for about 5 of the 11 nights we stayed and found the food excellent and Omar the waiter made us feel welcome and couldn't do enough for us. One thing to mention is that if you are all inclusive you must make a reservation for the Italian or you will have to pay. You can start to book at 9pm the evening before but you must be quick as they limit the numbers of AI guests and it was often fully booked by 9.10pm. We couldn't book it one night but when we told Omar we weren't able to make a reservation he had a word with his manager and got us in that night.

I must also mention that gents have to wear long trousers to evening meals or they will not let you in while it seems women can go in still wearing the bikini they have had on around the pool all day. I don't normally wear long trousers on holidays and only had one pair of jeans that served me well!

The nightlife is quite poor really, we didn't go to Naama Bay as we didn't like getting pestered by shop owners so we just stayed around the hotel. We expected it would be quiet so we were not suprised but we did have a few lovely nights in the lobby bar and one night at the beach bar watching the moon come over the horizon but generally it is very quiet.

Many people have mentioned that they couldn't get a sun bed around the pool but we had no problem. I got up at 7.20 every morning to get the beds and only 10% of beds were taken at that time and about 5% of those on the beach were taken. If you are going to stroll down at 10.30 and exepect to get 4 beds you will struggle but I didn't find this hotel any different to every other hotel in every other country I have been to with regards to sun beds.

You do not get bottles of water at the bars for free which we didn't like as it was very hot but at lunch and dinner you can get 2 or 3 big bottles no problems.

The main thing we enjoyed was the sea. The fish are amazing and we saw dolphins near the coast one day. It's mind blowing to see and we used to go out 2 or 3 times a day.

Neither me nor my girlfriend fell ill but we used common sense when eating and drinking things and also eat no meat which is probably where a lot of the problems come from.

All the staff were very helpful right from the reception to the gardners but watch out for them Russians, you'll recognize them because the man will be in speedos, the wife will look 13 and the kids will have mullets. They are so rude to everyone and are hated amongst all the waiters and staff.

If you want a bustling night life then this isn't for you but if it's sun, sea and relaxation you want then we recommend this hotel.

We booked with on the beach holidays (Do not book with them).
We should have been staying at the palms, but they said they were fully booked and moved us to Baron Resort. We were supposed to be in a delux room, there was nothing delux about it. Room 237 it was noisy 24-7 because of the staff having a room next door which they used to do washing up etc. The staff were very good and the hotel was clean, that is the only plus about this hotel 5* I think not! All inclusive, is not all inclusive. You can only drink a certain bars at certain times, and eat in certain restaurants at certain times. I have been to many all inclusives where you can eat and drink all day in any part of the hotel, this hotel however is different.
Entertainment- What entertainment? Its so bad that mosts nights it has about 5 people watching, and its in the palms.
Food - Do not eat a this hotel, me and my partner were sick for most of the holiday, what food we did eat was terrible. Dont go with children as they will starve! We had a few meals at the italian which was a lot better than the others. Until the last night when were tucking into our pasta and my partner found an alive cockroach in his. Of course they were "very sorry" and it had never happened before, they sent us a fruit basket which really didnt make up for the fact he had eaten half his meal and then found it! They gave us free late check out and said sorry. Not good enough!
This hotel certainly isnt 5* and if your wise you will not book your holiday here!

Dear Sir/Madam,

We regret to have heard that you were not happy with your vacation at the Baron Resort as we always strive to give the best service possible.
As to the tour operator we can only inform you that we cannot take responsibility for any of their actions. The same applies to the all inclusive formula which has been agreed upon with the tour operator and should have been explained to you in advance.

In regards to the food in the Italian restaurant we would like to apologise as this should definitely not happen and measures have been taken so this exceptional situation will not occur in the future.

Unfortunately a lot of visitors who come to Egypt experience some minor health problems which are simply due to the change in climate or change in food and beverages and in the most rare cases due to the quality of the food. We do have medical staff available in the hotel and our staff is always willing to assist should guests want to visit our pharmacy which can help in most cases.

However we are sorry for your experiences here but hope you will stay with us again in the future so we can show you that these past events are an exception and not a standard service or quality. We do our best to always go the extra mile and give our guests the best vacation possible.

A. Khaled

My wife and I stayed in this hotel from the 7th to the 14th June. We paid more than we normally would as this hotel seemed to offer everything we wanted. It wasn't worth paying this really.

On the whole this is a really nice hotel, which comes very close to deserving it 5star status. The problems we expereinced in this hotel were purely to do with the management and some members of the staff. The hotel is clean and beautiful and the food is really good. Some of the following comments may seem quite negative, but to us they were just few niggles that were not necessary.

Check in: We checked in at around 10.45 pm. We didn't get a very warm welcome, no drink or any particular greeting was offered. We had booked a double a room and they tried to insist on us taking a twin. We insisted harder and won in the end. The policy in this hotel seems to be that if you complain for long enough they will submit.

The room: Very spacious and clean with excellent Air Con - excactly as described/pictured on the website to be fair and although the bathroom could have done with a little updating, you could not really complain about anything in the room at all - except the bed, which was really hard. They do have a pillow menu though so this can at least help your head to get a bit of comfort, if you like your bed as hard as a door you'll love it. The bedding is really soft though. The shower was really powerful and there was always hot water and no water pressure issues. The balcony was spacious and the view was really pretty. We stayed in room 311 which is close to the reception and not too far from anywhere else as the grounds are quite small. There is a free safe in the room. Bathrobes, slippers and laundry bags are provided.

Minibar: although this is part of the room it really deserves a paragraph all of it's own. Basically anything which is in your Minibar on day 1 you have to pay for if you take (even if you are all inclusive), which I found quite bizare. There is a price list in the room. If you know you don't want to use it ask at reception for it to be emptied. They do try to charge you for things you have not taken on check out - this seemed to happen to everyone we talked to.

All inclusive package: not what it seems on the baron website. Only 2 of the restaraunts apart from the buffet are included although they are very good (the italian & egyptian). A card is provided for AI, not a band as we have previoulsy experineced. This caused quite a lot of confusion if you didn't present the card. They really just need to give bands out to AI customers to solve the problem that everyone seemed to experience with this. If you loose the card it costs you 100USD.

Hotel: A small but nice lobby area, very clean & quite compact. Walking around the whole hotel would take you about 20 minutes, if that. Pretty grounds which are well maintained and kept extremely clean. There is someone doing a job about every 5 yards.

Bars: Now this is where you may start getting annoyed with the lack of service. The staff seem to be on some sort of bonus where the less they serve the better it is. If you sit in the lobby you could be waitng for up to 25 minutes once you've passed your order on if you go to the bar they say they will bring it and 35 minutes could pass, at the pool bar things get worse, where they are just rude and if they cant be bothered dont even aknowledge you. The beach bar is about the only place where they are pleasant & capable. The drinks in the billiard /internet bar are not included as with the Now & Zen bar, which is only free from 10 to 11 pm.

Restaraunts:

The buffet is quite good by Egypt standards but you do need long trousers for evening meals unless you go into the Catherine buffet restaurant which is actually nicer than the main buffet as it is quieter and serves the same food.

The italian is very good food & service as is the egyptian.

The Indian charges as does the seafood restaraunt which were empty for the 2 weeks we were there they also charge for drinks even if you are A.I.

The pool restaraunt is not A.I.and quite expensive for a lunch if you can get someone to aknowledge you that is.

Food is AI from the beach bar at lunch as well as the main buffet.

Beach: This is one of the hotel good points with plenty of sunbeds & a lovely reef, while i was there i dived with a whale shark 20 mtrs of the jetty and there is also quite a lot of other life here.

Pools: The main pool is quite small and a little bit clincal for my liking but the water seemed very clean as did the surrounding area. You DO have to be an early riser to get a bed at the pool before about 7.30am. The major part of the pool is about 7ft deep so children need to be supervised. There is also a covered sea water pool close to the main pool are up some steps - it's quite peaceful here and quite a small area - this pool was not always full, sometimes it just had a puddle in it and other times it was half full - occassionally it was full.

Diving:

This was one of the main reasons we picked this hotel so that i could dive off the beach and have easy access to a dive centre & facillities but unfortunateley SINAI DIVERS are knowhere near as good as their web site.

Their pick up & drop off leaves you feeling annoyed as they insist on taking you to their main centre where you can be waiting for an hour before you get on another bus to go to the jetty. On the way back another hour at their centre before transfer to your hotel and the Baron is also the last drop off which could add 30 more minutes by the time your back.

I would also say if you are not experienced be careful because they seem to be quite lapse with supervision of divers. They didnt realise i had aborted a dive after 5 minutes on 1 occasion and left me leading 6 other divers on another (I am only qualified to sport diver (padi advanced) most of the divers on the boats were German and althout they were good divers the languge barrier can make it a long day if you cant speak with them (they did try and i now understand briefings in german)

1 of the dive leaders Alla was very nice. I have dived the red sea 5 times now & this company was my worst experience by far. I would reccomend Camel dive club as they are very professional.

Laundry: We had a few items laundered and the service in this hotel is exceptional. Clothes are returned next day and presented really nicely in individual bags - sorry but this impressed me but might be of no significance to anyone else.

Checkout: Checkout is at 12 noon, and all All Inclusive items end, unless you keep your room for longer and pay 50USD. They also take your towels off you at this time, which could be a pain if you have a late flight home.

Checkout was again quite impersonal. They seem to enjoy trying to charge you for things you have not had and confusing you by giving you about 10 sheets of paper with subtotals and totals added up. Just insist if they are charging you for something you have not taken and they will agree not to.

We did have a fantastic holiday and met some really lovely people. The staff at this hotel did not make our holiday as they have in other hotels.

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are sorry that you have been inconvenienced during your vacation and would like to inform you that any rude or not welcoming behavior by our stuff will not be accepted and corrective measures have been taken. The same goes for our independently operated dive center which has been informed about their staff and attention to our guests.
A twin set up in our rooms however is standard, unless otherwise requested and so are the obligatory long trousers during evening meals and a 12 noon check out. Nevertheless you should have been informed that the hotel facilities, including the showers in the health club, were still available to you even after check out and towels can and still should have been provided.
As to the All Inclusive formula we offer, this should have been presented and explained to you by your tour operator whilst booking your vacation, and additional information can be obtained in the hotel. This is something we agree and confirm with every tour operator but can vary from country to country. The All Inclusive system we offer is one of the more extensive one in Egypt though.
Furthermore we are sorry if you were not happy with the facilities offered by the hotel, particularly the swimming pools, as our main pool is of Olympic size and a separate swimming pool for children right next to it. In addition we also have a partially covered sea-water pool with Jacuzzi.
We do hope you will stay with us again in the future and we can show you that these past events are an exception and not a standard service or quality as we do strive to give the best service possible.
