Bought this holiday after long conversation on phone to Fleetway travel Uk for their assurance that the hotel was the Marmara Resort as opposed to the Marmara Sabena as we read the awful reviews and definitely didn't want to stay there yet there was a web site with a very attractive place called the Marmara Resort (which we wanted to book) and a web site with the Sabena. The holiday booking agent looked them up and said we were going to the Marmara Resort for sure and not to worry. Upon our arrival we saw we had been duped as it was indeed the Sabena. The Marmara Resort was fictional and designed to get bums on seats in this dump. We thought to just make the best of it and saw that the rooms were pleasant and clean though the door wouldn't lock and never got fixed. The hotel spa talked us into buying an £80 course of four massages each and after the first one, which was amazingly good, the masseuse disappeared to Italy on holiday and we never received the full course and we were NOT REFUNDED our money either. The manager said he would provide other masseuses and these clearly had no clue how to deliver a professional massage or desire to either. It was supposed to be aromatherapy but I smelt nothing but aqueous cream. Mine was rough, they didn't speak English at all with us and joked and laughed in Egyptian with her male colleague who was doing my boyfriend which was disconcerting and NOT RELAXING she poked me in the eye and scratched the skin on my back with rough nails. She also pulled my towel and pants to the side exposing me to her colleague which pissed me off. Then they left us to "relax" in the dark for 5mins before bursting into the room shouting GOOD MORNING and switching the bright overhead light on so we were shocked awake squinting and shielding our eyes which she evidently found amusing. She and her colleague who massaged my partner also very badly (we felt like despised pieces of meat) They were clearly 'not on our side' and when we had dressed they asked us for money... very relaxing! God knows why but my partner tipped them and the woman moaned it was not enough! she asked for my silver bracelet which I gave her - I don't know why I did that , I'm too soft! Please bear in mind this was was for massages we already paid £80. for. We never received the last two massages but wouldn't have wanted to with these jokers. The food was absolutely vile and loads of people ill. There was the same slop served every day, dried up cheap cuts of cardboard chicken, beef stew and tasteless ratatouille and badly cooked rice. No other choice at all and flies all over it in any case. We ended up having to eat out which ate into our budget horribly but we just couldn't cope with the food and we are not fussy eaters. We took antinal for our stomachs. Also the food areas and kitchens were filthy and the a la carte restaurant the filthiest most flyblown I've ever seen. After nearly two weeks of eating rubbish we complained online to Fleetway who must have called the hotel and later that evening at around midnight the hotel manager aggressively told us to pack our bags as Fleetway had arranged for us to be moved to another hotel first thing in the morning. so we packed and waited and waited and no one was coming for us so as lunchtime came and went, we asked the manager to call Fleetway to find out what was going on he said- with aggression- that the call would cost us £17. so we said can we email them again but we were told that the internet didn't work - yet it was fine the evening before when we emailed our disappointment to them and asked for their help. eventually I got in touch with Fleetway via email using Macdonalds wifi and they said we would have to pay extra to move to another hotel. When we returned from Madonalds the internet was fine again!?! Also as we were packing to leave the cleaner of our room asked for our mp3 player and my make up and when I tipped him which was every day £20egp plus little gifts (and some days I said not to clean our room so as to make life easier for him) he then demanded £100 egp. This same guy tried it on like this with other guests too. Anyway we eventually got transferred to the Gardenia Plaza which had amazing food but was a total nightmare for reasons I will go into on the review I'm going to write next. I have been to Sharm 3 times and loved it. I stayed at Laguna Vista Gardens and Sharm Holiday Resort. I will be avoiding Egypt for a while until the political situation calms down as I believe that is why we had such bad treatment this time. folks were openly selling cocaine in the streets and had no fear of the police - a far cry from previous visits. and we saw sniffer dogs checking out the area for our hotel bbq on the beach so there is obviously great concern for tourist safety at the moment. People were definitely less friendly than on previous visits. Also I heard that the Russian govt. was telling people to avoid Sharm for safety and there were hardly any Russians about when it was teeming with them previously yet Sharm holidays are being pushed so hard over here, they are advertised on almost every London bus and at very tempting prices on holiday websites. Why are the English Govt. encouraging its citizens to keep going there??? People BE SAFE avoid Egypt for a while. It is gutting cos i love the place and the people but now is NOT the time to be there. And I suspect our caring Govt. know this but aren't telling us.
