Maravu was delightful. Our bure was large and private and we enjoyed having coffee on the porch in the morning. The food was approaching gourmet. Cocktails (including beer and wine) were pretty good but pricey. The staff were, overall, kind, thoughtful, and attentive. The private beach was small but pleasant with comfortable chairs. Typically, we were the only people on the beach. I would definitely return to Maravu. People should know that alternative options for dining are few and we unexpectedly ended up eating dinner at the resort every night. Generally, we enjoy sampling other restaurants and are not inclined to take a meal package. Here, it seemed that options were limited, other facilities were somewhat far, and seemed a tricky walk in the dark. Just past Jewel Bubble Divers, close to Maravu, is a restaurant with great views, but I didn't sample their food.

My only complaint with Maravu, and it's small, has to do with the adventure package which includes scuba diving and 4 day trips to waterfalls and villages. We lost money on this deal. One, we only wanted to dive 4 days but had to dive 5. Two, we wanted to dive in the morning to allow for relaxing and other tours in the afternoon. The morning dive boat was full, so we had to dive in the afternoon. We missed 2 tours as a result. Three, the activities staff asked us for a "loan until I get paid tomorrow" while we were on a tour. Not coincidentally, we were the only tourists on this particular tour. He boldly asked us "do you have 10 dollars?" like he'd run this con many times. Initially, I thought he was asking for money to take us somewhere interesting. Ha. I don't mind giving money to people, but it struck me as weird that it happened on a paid tour. Needless to say, he never repaid the "loan". In addition, he cut the tour short and we completely missed the water slide which was an anticipated portion of the tour.

By the way, Jewel Bubble Divers were professional, kind, and willing to take us to the Great White Wall and Rainbow reef. Pristine, gorgeous diving. Currents are strong in some areas.

When and if we return to Taveuni, I would schedule with the dive boat independent of the Adventure package with Maravu.

Maravu- what can I say.. a beautiful paradise. Secluded bures, good food, and terrific activities and excursions. I am so glad we had the time to spend on this amazing island of Taveuni which was just Lush and green everywhere. (spectacular scenery everywhere) this is like a mini Kauai 50 years ago. villlages everywhere. to start: We did a little island hopping while we were in Fiji starting out with and tiny island near the mainland (navini) then to Maravu, and lastly to Qamea (island next door to Maravu) It was like 3 different trips neatly packaged together and it was a complete Fiji experience !!! (and I wan't to express my sincere thanks to the company that arranged this - Unforgettable Honeymoons out of Portland Oregon, because it went so perfectly & smoothly and was such an amazing package they put together for a killer price) First off the bures at Maravu are georgeous. the furniture, the beds, the overall atmosphere is very private and VERY secluded just what we wanted. Second, the staff were terrific. I never expected such friendliness in Fiji it was an eye opener. The people are so nice and warm and like no other place I have been to . I would say the food at Maravu was decent (Not quite a 5 star but excellent dishes and good variety) Maravu bures are not right on the beach , which we knew already from our agent. we did have a great picnic on a beach and did some snorkeling as well (which I give a 5 star to , snorkeling is amazing in Fiji much better than Hawaii ) We spent most of the time exploring the island ( Bouma Waterfalls- I give this a 5 star rating - a must do hike the most beautiful hike and waterfalls , there are 3 falls try to make it the 3rd if you go!!) We saw a beautiful old church, rode bikes, went to the International date line, drove by villages and waved to the locals. Met little kids along the way . We felt very safe in Fiji by the way , more so than anywhere we have been. Maravu is a terrific spot for exploring Taveuni Island and a nice secluded and romantic hideway for a reasonable price. I would NOT recommend the duplex bure , spend the extra $$ and do the hOneymoon bure which was much nicer. (we decided to upgrade while there and glad we did) the horseback riding was a nice extra as well, I had not been on a horse since I was 10 and was a little anxious.

Everything was perfect and we couldn’t have wished for a better last week of our Fiji holidays. Maravu is a great Resort as you have the freedom to do as much or as little as you want. Location is perfect, beautiful and quiet. The accommodations are large but cosy with an authentic Fijian feeling. We stayed the first half of our 8 nights at Maravu in an ocean view villa and the second half in the tree house. Both accommodations have amazing views and you feel very secluded because the cottages are placed in good distance of each other. The furniture from a local palm wood producer is outstanding with exceptional designs. The amenities in the bures are that of an international 5 star resort and the facilities include a nice little gym, wireless internet access, kayaks, snorkelling gear and mountain bikes - all of it for free.

The best of all the free activities are horseback riding and the Fijian night with dancers from the nearby village.

Staff are all top class and extremely attentive – even down to knowing all guests names. The service and the food and the band were all exceptional. The staff and food were all far superior than we have ever encountered anywhere else in Fiji and the Maravu Band were the icing on a very large and delicious cake. We are so amazed by the friendliness and contrast smiles of the Fijian people. It’s hard to single any individual out but we must mention that one day we came across a lady with her hands deep in soil working with the landscaping people. She seemed to be very learned and confident and the guys working with her were all having a great time, although they had grass and soil and rain in their hair, we later found out she was the Manager. This in itself showed us that the Management came down and met the staff on the same level which is why you have such excellent results to show.

Everyone provided us with the ultimate level of attention and care during our stay here. All the staff should be commended and thanked very highly as the level of service here is very hard to come by back home.

It was a great experience to drive past the villagers nearby. It showed us that these people have very basic lives compared to us but in many many ways they are actually happier and wealthier in their hearts as they have family close-by and they are living and enjoying life rather then working all day to pay off mortgages and vast materialistic “needs”, this was a very humbling experience.

From the cleaning maids, grounds-man (who took us horseback riding) service staff, reception staff all have been always so very charming and friendly. Thank you Robert, Albert, Abraham, Flo, Tina, Tracy, Chuckie, Sera and even lucky enough to meet the owner – all such amazing people. Please all stay the same, don’t ever change as the nature of Fiji people can be truly felt and experienced there and we have been truly touched by their kindness and warmth.

From our check in with singing and warm friendly introduction by Flo to the staff, who offered us breakfast, the friendly reception staff, all are very friendly like everyone else we encountered. Thank you so much for a truly amazing experience and we wish you good luck and best wishes to yourselves and the rest of your families. You have all deeply touched us both with your culture and kindness. We have been very sad to leave Maravu after a too short week. All in all our stay at Maravu was simply perfect, so much that we are already planning to return for full two weeks next year.

It was our second time to Taveuni and it was and still is just Paradise. The Resort, the beach, the plants….not to forget the gentle, always helpful people around and the absolutely amazing food. We hope the owner of Maravu doesn’t change anything and keep the nature as beautiful as it is. I guess most importantly I would say the entire resort setting is what we both like the most. There are so many things to say about this place, the trouble is where to start.....so here we are...No glitzy marble floors, no concrete sidewalks to the room, nothing overly “touristy” in terms of accommodations or on the main lodge. Maravu feels authentic, the main lodge and especially the Bures - we really hope this never changes.
When we read some of the latest comments about Maravu we feel that this guests would have been better accommodated in hotels like the kind of "world wide same standard and rooms", eg Sheraton and Hilton. Maravu is different and that makes it outstanding. We lived in several countries and travelled a lot to tropical island states and we think Maravu is doing it the perfect way...the right balance of everything, experiences, comfort, food, services and activities.
We felt at ease from the beginning at Maravu and we feel that the staff here are terrific, incredibly friendly & helpful as they made us feel welcome here in every way. We found our last nights supper was moved to the pool deck – that was very special for us both. We also would like to say that the music provided by the band boys really sets the tone and the mood for enjoying the evening. The rooms at Maravu are really great, we especially love the hot tub & showers outside. The rooms are large and comfortable and it was a pleasure to return to them. Everything was well cleaned everyday and the flower arrangements are very nice. We enjoyed also the quality hand made soaps, shampoo & conditioner. The warrior dances are always a highlight & an exciting evening with lots of fun sharing tables with all other guests during the Lovo dinner (underground feast).
I would like to put in also a few words about the food. It was fantastic and plentiful (a little too plentiful – we both gained pounds) the variety was perfect and everything was fresh & delicious. Hats off to the chefs. We shall return for sure and as soon as possible!

Our Honeymoon at Maravu Plantation was amazing! It is absolutley gorgeous on top of having wonderful staff! We were greeted with refreshing drinks that were decorated beautifully by the staff at Maravu. Everyone welcomed us. When we were taken to our room we were amazed, it was perfect! The staff did everything possible to make our stay perfect, we got to see and do everything we wanted to and then some! We even got to experience a local Rugby Tournament guided by Albert. Our tour guides from the resort was the best! Panaei and Albert took us to the best places and we got to see and experience all the local culture! Panaei took us to the Bouma Waterfalls where we hiked to the top and then swam with the locals at the end of our hike! Everyday at every meal we were greeted by Tracy who made sure we had everything during our meals to make us comfortable! The food served was amazing, the daily choices were that of a 5 star resturaunt! The Fijian Feast and local dancing one night was so much fun and the food was wonderful! Maria and Titlia at the reception desk were so great, anything we wanted we got and anywhere we wanted to go they arrange it for us! Thank you to everyone at Maravu incluclind Panaei, Albert, Tracy, Maria and Titilia - we will miss you and cant wait to return to Tavueni real soon!
