We spent a very pleasant week at Sao Domingos which largely lived up to our expectations. Let me start by saying that this is a hotel for travellers wanting a reasonable quality, friendly, basic bed and breakfast base for their holiday rather than a luxury 5 star option.
The hotel is very well located in a quiet lane just off the small hight street of Cavelossim. It has a main accommodation block and a separate annex across the lane adjoining the restaurant called Lucianas. We stayed in the main block in a top floor (3rd) room with a large balcony up amongst the coconut fronds. The room had a tv plus ceiling fan and air con which worked fine if a bit noisy. Bathroom had wet room shower, wash basin and toilet and was kept nice and clean. Beds were clean but very hard as stated by others. The staff helped out by putting some foam plastic on top of the mattress to mitigate this. Effective if not aesthetic. Other than the above, nights were peaceful - no traffic noise and all hotels have to stop music by 11 pm. There are special safe deposit boxes for valuables but we never had the slightest hint that anyone would take anything. I did keep trying to get on the internet but never succeeded for one reason or another.
Ashok, the receptionists and room staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant is an open air garden and again very pleasant. The main selling point for Sao Domingos which gives it an edge over competitors however is the recently built swimming pool. This is a good size, very clean and an attractive shady spot to relax and meet other guests.
Edwin, the hotel owner is a leading light in the local area and began his business many years ago with a beach shack. He still has a good shack down on Mobor Beach about 10 to 15 mins walk from the hotel. The shack is another very welcoming place to chill out - it has a good cafe and provides sun beds and umbrellas on the beautiful white beach. You can chat the day away with other guests, Edwin and his hotel staff.
Overall Sao Domingos is a good value, very friendly, adequate and unpretentious set up for those who want reliable base from which to enjoy South Goa.
