One thing! Once passed Trivandrum it was a breeze. We departed Kovalam about 10 but due to getting a bit lost in Trivandrum (trying to avoid it) the route was fairly easy. The traffic would not suit the faint hearted and I would not reccomend the ride if you have no or little experience of riding motorbikes. Although the journey was hard on our bums the breathtaking views of the Tatras was worth the pain.
A few rupees to go the the Hill Station where you park the bike and go from 2 wheels to 2 legs and walk to the top. There are a few places you can go to view different areas of the mountains.
Food!! bring your own as the facilty there is or was when we arrived only serving Biriyanis the Goverment eatery was, well quite gloomy.
Be aware there is a very steep climb and at times 1st gear was needed to negotiate the 22 hairpin bends near the summit.
The 2 Royal Enfields were 350cc, one brand new and owned by a Brit who has a home there and one approx 2 years old and hired (see LaLu a tailor at Lighthouse Beach, Kovalam he is well known) for 1000 rupees for 2 days (approx £13.90). Cost to fill the tank 880 rupees (approx £12.22)! Handed the bike back with half a tank of fuel still left.
If you fancy the views but not the journey by bike just book a taxi not sure of the cost though.
