This year, my husband and I spent our yearly two week holiday in Kerala. Before booking our 4 days at Indhrivanam, we were a bit worried about having to use dry toilets (no experience in that!), but it wasn't a problem at all, and it actually felt very good to not waste double figure litres of water after each visit to the toilet.
Indhrivanam's website was very precise in it's descriptions: the stone cottage is very beautiful, the beds are probably the best we have slept in anywhere in the world, the food was delicious (oats with fruit and homemade soyamilk, homemade bread and the most amazing homemade cream cheese for breakfast, a Kerala meal for lunch, and usually North Indian dishes for dinner), and the location is very peaceful. The owners were extremely helpful and provided us with maps for local walks that no one else seems to know about; we even managed to walk along the mountain ridge (good quality roads and paths, no traffic) between Kerala and Tamil Nadu into Kumily, which is the town onto which Thekkady/Periyar Tiger Reserve is attached.
The big bonus for us was that two Nilgiri Langur monkeys seem to have taken up residence on the property. They are very shy creatures, but a few times they came past the cottage through the tree tops.
All in all, we couldn't fault Indhrivanam; it was easily the nicest place we stayed at in Kerala, and their tariff felt quite low considering what we got when compared with other accommodations in Kerala.
