Devi Garh is my favorite hotel in the world: the dream location in a desert village; the stunning architecture of the original fort and its impeccable renovation; the amazing service - they all combine to make Devi Garh just the perfect escape to relax in style.
My husband and I have stayed at Devi Garh twice: first in 2005, and again in 2012. If anything, what was already outstanding at all levels got even better.
Service: Absolutely world-class at all levels (restaurant, bar, reception, pool-side, house-keeping). The staff not only met all, but also anticipated several of our needs and took action: a glass of lemonade arriving unexpectedly by the pool when you think you're getting a bit thirsty, or a cup of tea and a shawl when the sun gets down and the temperature drops as you are reading a book on a daybed at the bar. We've encountered this level of service at only one or two other hotels in our travels.
Hotel facilities: Simply wonderful! The design, the architecture, the multiple communal places, the pool, the beautiful hidden nooks in which one can sit, read, or even take a nap – all fantastic. The wall of Rajasthani paintings exquisitely framed in the suite we stayed in is gorgeous. Most suites also have a view of the surrounding mountains and village life.
Restaurant: Absolutely delicious food. The restaurant has an extensive menu ranging from traditional and modern Indian to Rajasthani delicacies to continental food. There's plenty of choice but if you want something off the menu, you just need to ask. We also enjoyed two wonderful private dinners in beautiful settings.
Bar: The verandah at the bar is now one of our favorite places in the world to watch sunsets. The music selection is fantastic. The wine selection is good. The munchies sophisticated and delicious. The "Devi Garh Therapy" drink is just what the doctor prescribed for complete happiness.
Spa: The staff is well trained and professional. We enjoyed two great treatments. Being a bit of massage snobs, we were happily surprised at the level of energy our therapists put into it.
Environment: One of the absolutely fantastic things about Devi Garh is the lack of pollution (sound, light, and air). The village just outside the gates is very picturesque and full of charm. If you're feeling adventurous, you can borrow mountain bikes from the hotel and explore a bit farther - or have the hotel arrange for a camel ride.
Any suite in the main building (not the garden suites) will be lovely.
