My wife and I went on a holiday covering Udaipur and Kumbalgarh. After spending a peaceful day in a resort in Kumbalgarh, we decided to visit the nearby fort. As advised, we landed at the fort at around 5 PM. It looked magnificent and large. We climbed up till the top of the palace in the fort. It was quite a climb and took almost an hour with several stops for taking in the sights as well as giving our limbs some rest. The view from the topmost point was breathtaking with undulating hills all around. We wondered as to how someone could build such a grand structure at this location. We did not know that we would find the answer very soon!
After walking down to the base of the fort, we joined the sound and light show. This was really good and very informative. The history of the place, how the fort got built, how the Moghuls could not conquer it for long periods of time etc etc were all very well explained to the accompaniment of music and other relevant sounds.
As we left around 8 PM, the entire fort and palace were lit up and it was a truly magnificent sight. We left the place admiring our ancestors who had the vision to build such marvellous structures. One also wondered about the internal rivalries and how the invaders could take advantage and conquer the local kings! It was a great "Blast from the Past"
