Well, If you haven't eaten at Tunday Kababi, you haven't been to Lucknow. That is the diktat every person seems to be following else where. So finally after being in lucknow for over 20 days I decided to head to Lucknow's Mecca for delightful food. It felt nothing less than a pilgrimage. Maneuvering through the crowds, the noise, the traffic and the heat at Aminabad, all made it feel nothing less then a true pilgrimage..
Finally we arrived at the destination. It is a small congested place and almost always crowded (Not something unexpected at such famous eateries). It could have been cleaner at-least just for its reputation. The service is impressive and rather too quick by Lucknow times. Servers are generally too busy to be either too polite or rude (that's good thing at such places). Dishes were surprisingly clean with no traces of grease. We order Tunday Kebabs, Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Biryani and Mutton Chop
Tunday Kebab was very delightful. The Chop is essentially the same but with a rib bone sticking through the mouth water minced meat. Ordering both at the same visit could be totally avoided. The tandoori was disappointing and so was the Chicken Biryani. The meat was rubbery rather over cooked and the biryani was totally bland.
No doubt the food was good, but I have had better food at other places. In Lucknow itself, I would prefer Dastarkwan for a revisit then Tunday's. On a national level, I would definately rate Kareem's in Delhi and Bade Mian in Mumbai much much higher for the quality and taste of food, even the kababs specially the chicken menu.
I wouldn't say I was disappointed with the food. It was rather good food but i just felt the place was hyped a bit too much for what was on the platter.
