If you are looking for ultimate luxury and a hotel rooms stuffed with the 21st century technology you can stop reading here.
If you are looking for a beautiful tropical environment, a resort with a special atmosphere and nice people you may well consider Bali Hyatt as an ideal holiday destination.
We stayed in Bali Hyatt a year ago and were so impressed that we decided to spend our vacation in the same hotel again although normally we try to see something new whenever we travel. Surprisingly (or may be not) after our arrival we met many guests to whom we talked a year ago. And when talking to other people at the pool or elsewhere some of them said: "We always travel to new destinations but we seriously consider coming back here again".
Yes, the hotel is definitely outdated (we were told that the reconstruction is planned from mid next year). The rooms are on the small side and except unusually quite aircon there is no other technology ... yes, of course, a very old CRT TV. The internet connection is terribly overpriced and usable only at night ... its speed is very low during the day and evening.
After reading the previous paragraph the next question is obvious: why - on the Earth - would anybody consider to stay in such hotel/resort again.
First of all, hotel grounds ... the hotel is set on many acres of perfectly maintained tropical garden. Even if hotel is full you can still take a pool chair and take it to "your" piece of that beauty and relax without being disturbed by other hotel guests. There are more than enough pool chairs and beach chairs ... you can always find some at both pool or the beach. The hotel also prohibits "reserving" pool chairs by towels which is a stupid habit of Europeans (primarily Germans).
The hotels grounds are in a fact a large botanical garden with may different tropical trees and plants ... and they in a fact organize even a guided tour.
The beach is OK. Of course, it is neither white sand beach as in Cancun or Boracay but the hotel staff do their best the keep it in a perfect shape and clean. The sea seemed to be much clearer than a year ago ... many people say that the beach at Nusa Dua is much better but I experienced both and do not see any major difference.
Sanur is quiet place with many good restaurants just outside the hotel. Balinese people are generally very nice and friendly and the prices in the restaurants are reasonable.
But the most valuable asset of Bali Hyatt is its staff. Everybody (no exception) gives you an impression that you are welcomed guest and they do their best to meet all your needs. I have stayed in many 5-star resorts and hotels but in most of them they can take lessons from Bali Hyatt staff when it comes to giving the feeling of genuine friendliness.
I hope that the renovation does not spoil the atmosphere of the hotel.
