Staying at Hotel Majapahit is like a step back in time to the colonial days of old. The 5* service starts from the moment you make your reservation. The staff can cater to all your needs before you arrive and book any tours, transfers, etc that you may require over email which is what we did for our Mt Bromo trip.
The hotel itself is steeped in history and nostaligia, with photos all around the lobby which you can enjoy during or after check in while you sip on your welcome drink.
The rooms are a step back in time with beautiful old colonial décor. They have all you need and more, a huge toiletries selection, mini bar, tv, safe, hair dryer, etc as you would expect for a 5* hotel and if you need something your room doesnt have the staff will surely find it with a smile.
The bed is extremely comfortable and the room size very large. We had a garden room which was more than large enough.
The hotel grounds are immaculately kept and have gorgeous areas to sit and reflect on times gone by with photos and old colonial pieces scattered throughout.
The pool, spa and fitness facilities are first class. We sadly didn't have a massage during our stay due to the spa being booked out - a sign of how wonderful the spa truly is.
The concierge can organise any trips you wish to do. They booked a driver for us on one day, who was so much fun and spoke great English. We also went on the midnight trip to Mount Bromo to see the sunrise and climb up to the crater rim of the volcano. Both Arif and Agus took us up the mountain and organised everything for us via email before we arrived. Our every need was catered for , pillows and blankets in the car for the 3 hour drive up the mountains, jeep to take us up to the sunrise viewpoint, drink while we waited for the sun to come up, sunrise photos at multiple places, horse ride up to the crater rim, and a delicious traditional breakfast at a family home before the 3 hour trip back to Surabaya. They made sure we had warm clothes for up the mountain and were great in helping advise and organise what we could do for our remaining time in Surabaya. They both were so helpful and always making sure our every need was catered for before we asked.
Dinner in the hotels restaurant Indigo was also amazing. The food itself was exceptional and the service too, especially Tya. The meals were huge and good value. We did eat out nearby and for value for money the Indigo really cannot be beat.
There is also a bakery which sells local snacks , bread and pastries all 25% off after 7pm and worth trying.
Overall our experience at Hotel Majapahit was amazing. We travel a lot throughout SE Asia each year and we cannot recommend the hotel enough. The staff will bend over backwards to cater to your every need and you will leave feeling like you really did take a trip back in time !
