Check in - Check in was nothing special and I actually found that it lacked the Thai hospitality that I have become accustomed to when visiting Thailand. The reception area has colourful art and modern furnishings. The reception also looks into the swimming pool.
The Room - We were located 4th Floor of the Cello Wing and had views over the garden, pool and the Andaman Sea. Our room was bright, but not glaringly so, and funky with modern fittings. There is a flat screen television with a number of cable channels to choose from and free wifi internet which provided good speed from browsing the web. The bed I found to be quite firm but I didn't have trouble sleeping on it. The mini bar was free (and contained 2 beers and numerous soft drinks) and was replenished daily. There was a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table. Also located on the balcony was a good sized jacuzzi. The bathroom was large, modern and contained a rain shower and a very large free standing bath. However impressive all of this was, once the sun set I found the room to be a little style over substance. In the room (and throughout the resort) the wattage of the lightbulbs was very low, resulting in very poor light for reading, applying make up (so said my wife) and walking from our room to the lobby was often almost like navigating through a dark maze.
The Facilities - I didn't get a chance to check out the gym but there was definitely one there. The pool area has several extremely comfortable loungers, but you would want to be quick in high season as I'm sure they would fill up quite quickly and you would have to seek loungers further from the pool. There is a swim up bar that serves food and drink and what I did like was the pool was opened until 9pm. The infinity pool has a consistent depth and looks over the beach road and Patong Beach.
The Food: Had some snacks at the pool bar and the food was quite good. I had the Phad Krapow and the Larb. Breakfast was included and the buffet was opened until 11am, which I found to be a little later than most resorts. It was your usual breakfast buffet experience with egg station, asian food, western food and cereal and fruit station. The abundance of smoked fish was a great addition to the usual fare.
The Location - This hotel is located in a pretty good spot, it's directly across the road from Patong Beach and a good stroll (20-25 minutes) from Bangla Road. Expect to pay 150 Thai Baht for a Tuk Tuk back to the resort if you are coming from Bangla Road. It's located in a quieter part of Patong Beach, but close enough if you want to venture into the action.
Overall - This place is good without being spectacular, but for the price it did meet expectations. The resort let itself down with little things, like chips in the bathroom tiles, the clock in the bedroom being wrong by about 2 and a half hours and although the service was good it wasn't amazing. One thing that did get under my skin was when I was checking out and being served by the girl at reception a Thai guest came up and she stopped serving me to assist the Thai. Not a good way to end the stay. However that said, if the price was right and I wanted to stay in Patong I would most certainly consider staying here again.
Cello wing has good views over the resort and beach, especially if you are on level 4
