“Fantastic”

Blue Ocean Resort

Just returned from a twelve day stay. All the Blue Ocean staff were fantastic, very friendly & helpful. Hotel is in a great location, very convenient for shopping, beach, bars, restaurants, nightlife, markets etc. Would recommend Superior room, excellent value, "waterfall shower" very unique, although pool is not huge, it is perfect to cool down & relax in away from all the hustle & bustle of Patong. I will stay there again.

The Blue Ocean is a budget priced small hotel and is reasonably appointed with average room size and quality considering the Low cost. Some travellers have critized this hotel but if you want twice the quality - you should expect to pay twice the price. Myself and family booked two rooms in the peak season. Everything in Phuket was expensive compared to the rest of Thailand and geared to the GB pound and Euro, so spending Aussie dollars was a bit hard. Anyway besides a few things like missing curtain rings and some basic maintenance required everything else worked. Blue Ocean is very well located being ten minutes walk to the entertainment areas and five minutes to the beach. It is surrounded by shops and Thai massage, money exchange, tourist bureaus and restaurants a plenty etc (but is remarkably quiet.) It has a small pool and spa which are well maintained. The bathrooms are a bit quirky with a stone waterfall with water cascading down upon you as a shower. Sometimes the water pressure was low to non exsistent but after a few minutes it returned to normal. While we were there it was fully booked with people walking off the street for accommodation. The prepaid Internet price is genuine. Off the street price was 500 baht a night more than we paid and there was no shifting on the price. The staff were friendly and provided every assistance without question and were ready for a chat or to share a joke.
Overall, Location, Location, Location at a good price, if you want a firm bed, an aircon that works and Oh! yes Location.

“Rubbish”

Blue Ocean Resort

To sum up how bad it was I stayed for a total of 40 minutes before walking out & getting another hotel. It started by not being given the correct room. The room I was given was filthy & had a dead cockroach on the floor. I was moved to another room, which I was told I would only have for 3 days, after 20 minutes in this room the electricity went off.
Also they want 2000 baht deposit for a safe key. The safe looked like it made by a 6 year old child.

Oh my Gosh! Where do I start??! Short version: ONE OF THE WORST HOTELS I HAVE EVEN VISITED - STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE - ANYWHERE ELSE. Long version: We chose this as a base to stay in Phuket for 1 night before being picked up the next day by the Elephant Hills Luxury Camp team at Khao Sok National Park. Needless to say, we like most people, could normally put up with something a little grotty just for one night, however this was beyond grotty. Our taxi pulled up in the middle of a huge tourist area of bacon & egg type cafes and lots of "massage parlours" with girls outside, shouting across the street to my partner. The area resembled Playa de las Americas or Magaluf. We realised that the swimming pool (small and dirty) was in a paved area just behind the main entrace to the hotel, so you could be seen from just about anyone on the street. The rooms were appauling - dark, no aircon, no real cupboards or wardrobes, no balcony, no patio, no private outdoor area unless you want to sit by the pool, near the road, opposite the massage parlour girls???? We opened the curtain to our window (wondering why on earth are the curtains closed in the middle of a sunny day??) to discover huge boiler tanks right outside. We would have had to stay in our room for the entire afternoon and night with the curtains closed, no fresh air or air-con. It was just awful - we were going to take photos, but my partner was so eager to get out, we had one drink in the hotel bar (also on the street) - just to get some daylight to read the Lonely Planet guide to find another hotel. It was so bad, we didn't even stay to complain about the major misrepresentation of the standard of this 'hotel', we just asked for a taxi immediately. Within an hour of arriving at the Blue Ocean Resort, we were checking into the Impiana Hotel, Patong which I have reviewed - much improvement!

“a little gem”

Blue Ocean Resort

15 Jan 2006
12/12 found this review helpful

i stayed at the blue ocean for 5 days at the beginning of the month- what a little gem!
i'd only found it by accident (was looking for the holiday inn) and was a little dubious at first but for the money it was spot on.
it's in a quiet little corner of patong (a feat in itself) but only a 5 minute walk from the main drag. the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for me when i walked in at 11.30pm after a particularly stressful journey. the room itself was basic but very clean and i had a lovely kingsize bed even though i was travelling alone. there's a decent size pool which was nice after a long day and the inroom tv had 2 movie channels which were much appreciated at 3am when i had jet lag!!
all in all, very good value for money
