I booked our stay on the net, and when we arrived, the hotel advised us that they no longer accept bookings from 3rd party agents online! They wanted to charge us full rack rate for the booking, but we had already paid our agent. We contacted them and got the amount refunded.
Went to the Merlin Beach Resort instead, which was fantastic.
BEWARE i have since seen latestays and phuket.com with banthai resort on their site and i doubt the bookings would be honoured.
The management's attitude sucks - BIG TIME.

My stay at this hotel was the worst travel experience that I have ever had. I fail to understand how a so called 4-star hotel can treat their customers so callously. I made a mistake and made my reservations for 1 person rather than 2. My bad. The hotel website and rack rate is 500 baht ($17USD) higher per night for 2 persons. Okay, I was willing to pay that. The hotel however said that I would have to pay an additional 1500 baht per night ($50USD) and that if I wanted the lower rate I would have to go on to their website and change my reservation. This made absolutely no sense at all. The situation was resolved and I was allowed to pay the lower additional rate but only after several phone calls made to "management" by a friend in the travel industry.

I had booked one of the hotel's higher category deluxe pool access rooms. The first room offered had no privacy because the hotel internet/guest welcome room window looked directly into it. Beware if you book this category room. The second room was satisfactory though the TV did not work properly during the duration of the stay and mosquitoes in the room were a big problem. It was like a plague. Did not have this problem anywhere else in Thailand or Cambodia. Even after the hotel sprayed inside, there were several still buzzing around throughout the night. I have a pretty high tolerance for insects because I live in Hawaii but these mosquitoes were especially problematic. Sign in the room said to keep the door closed to avoid this problem but their staff kept the doors wide open when making up the room. Could not sit outside either because the mosquitoes would swarm.

Checking out was as bad as the rest of the stay. I called at 7 am and was told by the front desk that a 2pm check out was okay. At 11:45 am after coming back from the beach, we found ourselves locked out of the room. The front desk manager said she did not have a record of my late checkout approval, that she would investigate with the clerk but he was already gone for the day so, she couldn’t do anything and that I had to get out of the room as the next guest would be arriving at 2pm.

I have to admit their swimming pools are pretty cool but hey, there are plenty of other hotels in Patong Beach with that amenity. I recommend you book one of those instead of the Banthai Beach that is, unless you like being treated like dirt.

Our 'little' room was no where as attractive as that of Weens9294's. When we asked for a change of room because of air con problem and chipped bath tub, sigh sigh, the next room was not any much better.

No problem la, after all we were there to relax and enjoy. Checking in service was quite unique actually ...didn't have to stand and queue..the lounge area and the welcome drinks were there for us. We only needed to relax and wait for the front office staff to send us to the room..

Ok la though we might have our expectations. Swimming pools and amenities not too bad. Gym and spa facilites quite well maintained except that a hot jucuzzi was preferred.

Buffet breakfast was decent and speciai mention to the ever obliging eggy station chef. He even on his own initiative did me an almost prefect half boiled egg and sending it to my table even.

Yes, hotel is at the centre of Patong Beach.. facing the curvy stretch of nice clean beach. Lots of activities and people there despite the low season...and a very good job of those who have been keeping the beach clean. It was also a joy jogging along the stretch of beach during sun rise...something i could not enjoy back in Singapore.

Despite our initial disappointments, it was a good stay on the whole :=)

Banthai is right in the heart of Patong, on the main road, but just set back enough to not hear the noise from the nightlife.

2 great pools, both with swim-up bars and really friendly staff.

ROOMS:
We stayed for our honeymoon and we booked a deluxe pool access room but were upgraded to a suite.
Modern decor, and a fantastic comfortable king size bed, with great pillows (we stayed at another hotel for part of our stay and this was heaven!)

There are 2 different types of pool access rooms, the pool access room and the DELUXE pool access room. The standard pool access room is not right on the pool, it's about 10 steps away and sun bathers can use the sun beds in front of the room, they aren't reserved for the room guests.
The deluxe pool access rooms had their own segregated area from the main pool and their door opened directly into the pool - be specific when you book and check your booking!

HOTEL
Mini bar / laundry / internet all reasonably priced.
Breakfast was great, everything replenished frequently and they had an egg station so you could have your eggs whatever way you wanted - oh and a waffle / pancake station too.

The room service menu leaves a lot to be desired, I guess because Patong Beach road is 5 secs away, they don't really bother with the service? There was 10 items on it all a little weird in their own way and no Thai selection, all hamburgers / hot dogs...

We had lunch at 'the port' but renovations are being done, so we moved back to the internal bar and told them to bring our meals over - we had a jackhammer going next to our table!

The hotel reception is open air, so when it rains, everything gets soaked. The restaurants are disconnected from the hotel so in rainy weather you are going to get wet just going to your room. Use the hotel umbrella! It's outside the room, next to the front door.

I would stay here again, no doubt about it.

Stayed at The Banthai the first week in May, Travelled with a couple of friends and after reading earlier reviews regarding the unavailability of rooms upon arriving I was a little worried. I have to say we had no such problems, we had three rooms booked and our check-in was fairly quick and easy, although even though we booked as a group the rooms were fairly well spread around the resort.

Our room was on the third floor overlooking the pool which is located between three sides of the building ( the building wraps around the pool. ) The rooms are not particularly modern but have everything you need for a comfortable stay (we stayed 8 nights), one thing to note is that although ‘street’ noise is not heard dependent on where you are located you could be effected by noise form the live band at the adjoining restaurant or from what I think is the laundry facility of the Banthai

We did have a problem with the air conditioning when we first arrived however it was repaired within 10 minutes of a call to reception. We had a lot of rain during our stay and I would agree with a previous review that the choice of tiles to the corridors and paths around the resort are a worry, they are extremely slippery when wet, be very careful.

Our room was serviced daily and I can't complain about quality of the staffs work or cleanliness of the room. The staff are fairly helpful although their grasp of English is not that good, although we always managed to communicate what we required to them.

The resort pools are quite good and clean although they are not particularly deep. As far as I could tell all the rooms have a view over one of the three pools.

We didn’t try the resort restaurant, we found a much larger selection of restaurants around Patong at a considerably cheaper cost, as part of our package we had a buffet breakfast included everyday, the food selection was quite good with a chef on hand to cook any special orders.

Overall our stay was quite OK with the resort being centrally located within easy walk to the beach, markets, restaurants and bars that make up Patong
