“Great Value for the Money in Patong, Phuket”

Baumanburi Hotel

31 Dec 2007

Some of the earlier reviews about the Baumanburi Hotel in Patong on Phuket had me worried, as they sounded horrible. But the construction on the hotel's room expansion project is essentially complete and as such my stay was excellent! My room was brand new, beautifully furnished, and I even had a view to the bay (not a wide-open view, obviously, as the hotel is set back by a long block from a bay-front location, but still I could see it-- I was on the 6th floor of the seven-story back building). The location on the town's main street put me within walking distance of all the attractions, and the beach was about five to ten minutes away by foot through lots of interesting shops, etc. The staff could not have been friendlier, and I received service with a huge smile whenever I had any requests. The breakfast buffet was plentiful (there was a large selection, with the egg station being my favorite); like every hotel in which I've stayed in Thailand, the coffee could be better-- but a Starbucks was down the street about ten minutes by foot so I survived. One hidden attraction was the open-air restaurant on the ground level near the reception: the food was outstanding, as the chef prepared many varieties of local fish with typical Thai flavors; the price was very good, and I was surprised that there were not more diners. (This restaurant should have a much larger patronage given its quality and price. It is likely due to the location of the hotel near the southern end of the long main drag through town, and the fact that it was a hotel-based restaurant. I was told there are plans to locate the restaurant to what is now the front parking area, and that should bring this place to the attention of more diners.) So, all in all, great stay: location in the middle of everything, excellent value for the money, friendly staff. I could not have been more pleased and I recommend the Baumanburi to anyone going to Patong who wants a good, clean, well-managed and customer-friendly hotel that offers excellent value for the price.

be careful when you book superior room as they have 2 wings, one old and one slightly better, both away from the main tower. Both are located at the main road.Noisy and have mosquitoes. They made a mistake on my booking and I ended up with the old one. What a bad experience.Any decent hotel will not throw you to a worse room that you have booked, instead some will even upgrade you but at least not to a terrible room since it was their fault. They did not bother to opologise and the staff were arrogant.
Normally a child aged 4 will not be charged for breakfast. They agreed at the restaurant that they will not charge anything since my son did not even eat. However, upon checkout, they force me to pay.I was so that I gave them a piece of my mind and paid.It was a bad experience and I will never go back again. The breakfast was also not up to standard.Btw, there were knockings at my dtoor several times, and when I opened , there was no one.I made them change to a different room the next day.The superior wing is spooky, even the locals said that. Please don't stay here.

My husband and I spent 7 nights at the Baumanburi in October. We stayed in a delux room on the 4th floor which overlooks the pool. As opposed to some of the previous reviews we found the room to be very clean and the one problem we had with one of the pillows smelling a little 'funky' was rectified immediately upon bringing to their attention.

I often wonder what people expect for the $$$ they pay and personally for the price we paid for the room we were more than happy with the level of accomodation.

The atmosphere of the pool did not really appeal to me. Whilst there is a reasonable size pool with water jets there are not many deck chairs and it all seems to be crowed into the area surrounded on all four sides by the multi story buildings.

The location is excellent as it is right next to O Top markets and you can easily walk to Jungcelyon and Bangla Rd.
Shakers restaurant next door provides nice reasonably priced meals and snacks for those times you don't feel like venturing too far from the hotel.

I would not recommend this hotel for someone who is looking for a resort to sit back and laze by the pool enjoying resort facilities, but as a base to explore what Patong has to offer it is great.

Just got back from a week at this hotel. One of these cheap $99 per week deals we got through our fax at work, so not what we would usually pick but great value for this price.Stayed in the deluxe rooms which were fine and clean. King size bed was very comfortable. Lovely large pool. Staff were friendly but lacking in english. Only problem is that they are constructing a new wing at the moment and the building work goes on from 8.30 am - around 8.00pm and is noisy especially when you are relaxing by the pool. The location is excellent though. Just beside the markets and a few minutes to the beach, Will be nice when all the construction work is finished. Lacks in entertainment though. No lounge bar, only a swim up pool bar. Has a restaurant which was ok too but only ate there once for breakfast and dinner as we wanted to try out different places. Shakers restaurant next door is great for snacks and as well as great Thai food does an awsome ceasar salad :) M Grant Sydney

My husband and teenage son have just returned from 7 nights at this hotel. The hotel itself it in a good location, one street back from the beach and right in the heart of the Patong markets and shops.

The rooms are clean but very basic. They have one restaurant and the food is reasonable, although we only had their American breakfast, we preferred to eat in all the great restaurants in Phuket. The staff have little or no English so communication was extremely difficult, even getting a cocktail by the pool was almost impossible.

We did have a good holiday, but would not return to this hotel, they did not make us feel welcome and there was no atmosphere.
