“Not the best place to stay in Patong”

Baumanburi Hotel

The Baumanburi was a disappointment, we had stayed in Patong last year at the Amuri which was a fabulous hotel and expected a reasonable standard of accomodation as this is our fifth hotel stay in Thailand.
The hotel was very busy and the staff did not have much time or interest in looking after you. They did what was necessary but you come to expect more in a Thai hotel!
The room we were allocated looked out on a corridor with no view of the sky, we never knew if the sun was shining or if it was cloudy. The room was adequate but no hairdryer was provided. Storage space was very limited, we left our clothes in the suitcases. We asked for an upgrade but a the hotel was full it was not possible.
The swimming pool was completly surrounded by high building so got very little sun.
The position of the hotel is good in the fact that it is near the beach, shopping, restaurants and bars. However there are better hotels in the area and I would not stay in this hotel again

Myself and two friends stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in january. Some of the good features about this hotel were the pool area was fantastic, very pretty with all the water features. The buffet breakfast was great. It is in a great location, not far from beach, dining, or shopping. The only drawback for us was having a superiour room which overlooked the road. Since the road is busy nearly 24hrs of the day it is very noisy. Also there is hotel construction going on across the road. NOTE: they do not stop! there is noise 24hrs a day, we even thought it was noiser at night! during the day when we walked past they seemed to be doing nothing. So i advise to pay more for a deluxe room if you can. We also encountered on our first day/
night there, that the air con smelt. Other guests told us that they had made several complaints and it took ages for them to look at it. When we got back from a day at the beach, staff were looking at the air con, when they got up there a dead rat fell out! this was disgusting. We got a room change immediately though and had no problems after that.

Just completed 6 nights at the Baumanburi Hotel, Patong Beach Phuket from January 14 to 20. We were a little apprehensive about staying there based on the reviews of others, and we had not been to Phuket before. We stayed in the "superior rooms" in the older section, block 1 which is at the front of the hotel. So all other rooms should be even better. We found the room to be well maintained with nice colours and very comfortable kingsize bed. The bathroom was a little squashed for space with a toilet and shower with a glass screen, but did the job. The air conditioning worked well, with an adjustable thermostat. Main issue with the older section is that there is some road noise, but not so much that it effected sleep and as this section has no balcony, I found it would have been good to have a place to sit while your partner was still sleeping as I usually alway wake around 5.30pm while it is still dark. This problem can be partly solved by taking the stairs to the open rooftop to sit for a while. The pool is great. For a resort hotel the food is good value and quite nice. The buffet breakfast is approximately $10AUS each. This gave some western diet choices, I didn't find any better breakfast options in the vicinity of the hotel. The hotel could provide more information on the facilities and activities in the area, the room provided no information brochures/directories at all. The hotel staff were very nice, but there lack of English skills did make it very difficult to communicate at times. There is two deli/mart type shops at the front of the hotel open 24 hours, and probaby 6 ATMs within 50 metres of the hotel. A middle of the road hotel in the Patong beach area, but very comfortable and good value compared to many of the more flashy hotels in the Patong area.

“Best Value For Money”

Baumanburi Hotel

This hotel was just far enought away from the centre of patong. The Hotel is very open plan with a beautiful entrance with the restuarant to the right and the very nice swimming pool straight in front. The pool has several little water spas inside and a swim up to bar.
We booked it through [--] when we arrived we upgraded to a pool access pool there was only about 6 of these but it made all the difference.
There was entertainment on every night. ( Not very Good ) But good for a laugh. The restuarant and bar including Shaker was very well priced.
Would go back no problem

“Great Value for the Money in Patong, Phuket”

Baumanburi Hotel

31 Dec 2007
6/6 found this review helpful

Some of the earlier reviews about the Baumanburi Hotel in Patong on Phuket had me worried, as they sounded horrible. But the construction on the hotel's room expansion project is essentially complete and as such my stay was excellent! My room was brand new, beautifully furnished, and I even had a view to the bay (not a wide-open view, obviously, as the hotel is set back by a long block from a bay-front location, but still I could see it-- I was on the 6th floor of the seven-story back building). The location on the town's main street put me within walking distance of all the attractions, and the beach was about five to ten minutes away by foot through lots of interesting shops, etc. The staff could not have been friendlier, and I received service with a huge smile whenever I had any requests. The breakfast buffet was plentiful (there was a large selection, with the egg station being my favorite); like every hotel in which I've stayed in Thailand, the coffee could be better-- but a Starbucks was down the street about ten minutes by foot so I survived. One hidden attraction was the open-air restaurant on the ground level near the reception: the food was outstanding, as the chef prepared many varieties of local fish with typical Thai flavors; the price was very good, and I was surprised that there were not more diners. (This restaurant should have a much larger patronage given its quality and price. It is likely due to the location of the hotel near the southern end of the long main drag through town, and the fact that it was a hotel-based restaurant. I was told there are plans to locate the restaurant to what is now the front parking area, and that should bring this place to the attention of more diners.) So, all in all, great stay: location in the middle of everything, excellent value for the money, friendly staff. I could not have been more pleased and I recommend the Baumanburi to anyone going to Patong who wants a good, clean, well-managed and customer-friendly hotel that offers excellent value for the price.

Paul, from the USA, visited December 27-30 2007
