I think that I have a bad opinion of this resort just because of the area. Patong Beach is disgusting and I can't see why it's such a tourist attraction. A friend of my husband's recommended that we go here and I am sorry we listened. We did only stay 2 nights, in between staying 10 days in lovely Khao Lak and 6 days in Rawai Beach. Patong Beach itself was about a 15min walk from the hotel through a very dirty, crowded town with lots of rude, pushy street vendors...something you don't really get at Khao Lak or Rawai. The beach was packed and dirty. It seemed that this place was mostly for younger adults seeking a holiday of drinking and partying with friends. Not for us!
The hotel was ok. The staff was much less friendly than other places and the restaurant wasn't good. The room was nice, except for the fact that you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The pool was ok as well. We had the pool side room, which I actually would have loved if everything else had been better.
Patong is NOT the place to go to experience Thailand and NOT the place for a couple or for small kids. We won't go back to Patong, but Thailand is on our list of vacation spots!

We recently spent a week at the Baumanburi Hotel, Patong. Let me tell you straight up, don't go there. From the moment we checked in with the unfriendly staff til the moment we left it was nothing but misery. The room was terrible. Overlooking a very busy road. The shower never worked properly the whole time. Our friends who were in a different room had exactly the same problems. The bathroom is so tiny you seriously cannot turn sideways! The room also had an unpleasant odor the whole time. The breakfast buffet was so bad, that although we had free breakfast there, we chose to eat breakfast across the road at the Patong Merlin (delightful buffet, delightful staff). Baumanburi staff were completely unfriendly the whole time. The only nice staff were in the day spa. Even the Bar staff couldn't raise a smile. Really gave my impression of beautiful Thai people a bad slight. Yes it is handy to the market, but also backs onto a busy area. The pool is nice. Trust me, you are better off staying across the road at the Patong Merlin Resort.

Well, when you read the reviews you think WHY did I book here. It really wasn't that bad. We got our accommodation through ebay. A special for $80 for the week. You think your room isn't going to have a roof or something. It really was quite pleasant. Rooms are very clean just a bit old. In fact it's only the bathroom that looks old. They have a section reserved for the ebay specials. And anyway the pool soon makes up for everything. It's beautiful. Only down side is it closes too early. 7pm. Of course for extra money you can upgrade your room .The upgraded rooms are lovely. Bigger bathrooms with granite tops. Overall our stay was really nice. The staff are very pleasant though speaking English is a bit of a challenge for them. We got by. You will too.

The Baumanburi was a disappointment, we had stayed in Patong last year at the Amuri which was a fabulous hotel and expected a reasonable standard of accomodation as this is our fifth hotel stay in Thailand.
The hotel was very busy and the staff did not have much time or interest in looking after you. They did what was necessary but you come to expect more in a Thai hotel!
The room we were allocated looked out on a corridor with no view of the sky, we never knew if the sun was shining or if it was cloudy. The room was adequate but no hairdryer was provided. Storage space was very limited, we left our clothes in the suitcases. We asked for an upgrade but a the hotel was full it was not possible.
The swimming pool was completly surrounded by high building so got very little sun.
The position of the hotel is good in the fact that it is near the beach, shopping, restaurants and bars. However there are better hotels in the area and I would not stay in this hotel again
