“Amazing Small n Neat Hotel”

Salathai Resort

17 May 2008

The hotel is exactly look same like the photo that share by other traveller. Very well maintance, clean and nice. It located close everything but it is so quiet when u step in the resort. It have a very nice pool, from morning to evening. The spacious deluxe room is enough for me, very clean and nice for everything. The food is ok too. It only 3 mins to go for the beach. So not to be worry. It very near. this is located at the north part of patong beach. South part ( the pub road) will be more happening. But it just need to walk around 10 mins to reach for everything.

“Bad Experiences”

Salathai Resort

29 Apr 2008

Had some bad experiences and hope management of Salathai resort can do something about it else business is going to go down in the long run.. Below are some reasons to it:

BAD experience
1) Air-conditioning in the room was faulty. Despite reporting to the front desk, nothing was done and the guy who was on night duty at the front desk had a terrible attitude. Not only did he do nothing when he arrived at my room, he was giving me one kind of stupid face telling me to wait for the aircon to turn cold by itself. That's a total insult to me as if i'm operating aircon in hotel room for the first time... In fact, the aircon was already faulty on the first day of my arrival but i did not do anything as it was like working for a couple of hours and down for approx. 1hour but that night mentioned above was really terrible, almost the entire night, there was no air-conditioning. THis itself is good enough to screw up the entire stay...

2) The same guy was there when we were about to leave the hotel for airport. Double standards and this should not be happening in service line. When a pair of old australian couple was leaving, he was eagerly helping them to carry their bags to the taxi, of course, the couple of polite enough to pas him some tips. But when our taxi was here, i guess he remember us and did not help us get our bags onto the taxi, C'mon, people from singapore aren't that poor not to give any tips.

3) Hell lot of sand files at the pool area

“quiet enough”

Nice small out of the way no noise etc all sum up Salathai.

It does nothing wrong and is a perfectly acceptable choice if you want close to beach but without going for one of the large chain hotels.

Staff were pleasant without being as friendly as you might expect in a Thai hotel.

Room large enough though I requested a double and was given a twin - but dark down my end of the hotel and with poorly fitted bathroom - reasonable so just creeps into the 4 by comparison with other hotels in the area.

Stayed 3 nights at the Salathai resort with 3 other friends. My first impression was that despite the entrance being rather non-distinctive, once you stroll into the resort, you are completely cut off from the bustling street scene to a simple piece of haven.

The resort is situated at Patong Beach, not directly beachfront but it's an easy 5-10mins stroll to the beautiful beach and believe me, I have been to other main beaches on other islands and I was astounded by the clarity of the water and the fineness of the sand on Patong beach! No wonder it attracts so many tourists to Phuket.

Back to the resort, we stayed in 2 Deluxe rooms as they were the only ones available during my period of stay and the rooms were very spacious. You can comfortably add an extra bed and sleep 3 pax without feeling cluster-phobic. I particularly liked the big basin, big toilet and BIG bathtub fixtures in the bathroom. The Deluxe rooms are also situated on the ground level where you can just jump into the small but lovely pool right out of your own balcony. However, the granite used to line the edges of the pool are rather sharp so make sure you don't run and fall. Else I'm pretty sure you'll suffer a nasty wound.

The bed is comfortably firm and despite me sharing a King-sized bed with my friend, we did not felt disturbed by each other throughout the nights. The pillows however were very soft but it did ok.... did not gave us any stiff neck from the lack of support they are giving.

Service wise, the staff were efficient and rather friendly, but they did not exactly impressed me in any way. Whatever we requested, they provided but I swear there were 2 mornings when my room did not receive the wake-up call we requested while the other room did. So make sure you set your own alarms if you have an early start for the day.

Breakfast was great! Food is delicious although the buffet selection is quite basic. I particularly loved the potatoes! One incident however wasn't quite positive was that the front desk told us that the breakfast will commence at 6.30am and since we are visiting the Similan Islands departing at 6.30am, we decided to try our luck and have a quick breakfast. When we arrived at the dining area, we were informed by the F&B staff that breakfast will only start at 7am. We were quite upset about the wrong information given by the front desk but we managed to eat some croissants and bread and of course coffee before we departed for our day trip.

All in all, I will still recommend this resort to people simply because of it's accessibility and cleanliness. I would definitely choose to stay there again my next visit to lovely Phuket!
