Stayed 3 nights at the Salathai resort with 3 other friends. My first impression was that despite the entrance being rather non-distinctive, once you stroll into the resort, you are completely cut off from the bustling street scene to a simple piece of haven.
The resort is situated at Patong Beach, not directly beachfront but it's an easy 5-10mins stroll to the beautiful beach and believe me, I have been to other main beaches on other islands and I was astounded by the clarity of the water and the fineness of the sand on Patong beach! No wonder it attracts so many tourists to Phuket.
Back to the resort, we stayed in 2 Deluxe rooms as they were the only ones available during my period of stay and the rooms were very spacious. You can comfortably add an extra bed and sleep 3 pax without feeling cluster-phobic. I particularly liked the big basin, big toilet and BIG bathtub fixtures in the bathroom. The Deluxe rooms are also situated on the ground level where you can just jump into the small but lovely pool right out of your own balcony. However, the granite used to line the edges of the pool are rather sharp so make sure you don't run and fall. Else I'm pretty sure you'll suffer a nasty wound.
The bed is comfortably firm and despite me sharing a King-sized bed with my friend, we did not felt disturbed by each other throughout the nights. The pillows however were very soft but it did ok.... did not gave us any stiff neck from the lack of support they are giving.
Service wise, the staff were efficient and rather friendly, but they did not exactly impressed me in any way. Whatever we requested, they provided but I swear there were 2 mornings when my room did not receive the wake-up call we requested while the other room did. So make sure you set your own alarms if you have an early start for the day.
Breakfast was great! Food is delicious although the buffet selection is quite basic. I particularly loved the potatoes! One incident however wasn't quite positive was that the front desk told us that the breakfast will commence at 6.30am and since we are visiting the Similan Islands departing at 6.30am, we decided to try our luck and have a quick breakfast. When we arrived at the dining area, we were informed by the F&B staff that breakfast will only start at 7am. We were quite upset about the wrong information given by the front desk but we managed to eat some croissants and bread and of course coffee before we departed for our day trip.
All in all, I will still recommend this resort to people simply because of it's accessibility and cleanliness. I would definitely choose to stay there again my next visit to lovely Phuket!
