My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks in July 2005 and would highly recommend the Hasdrubal to those who enjoy and are prepared to pay for the unashamed luxury offered. Every room with the exception of the larger villas, of which there are only two (for highly paid footballers or equivalent wealth) and the Presidential Suite, is extra large with sitting area and a small veranda/balcony with sun loungers and table where we often enjoyed a pre-dinner G&T. Sadly, the rooms don't provide tea/coffee making facilities.
Set in its own grounds, the hotel is fronted by large, ornate iron fencing with large, manned gates which when opened by the uniformed gatekeeper provides a panoramic view of the facade of the wonderfully designed building. Wow! we thought as our car pulled up to the front steps. The beautiful architecture and cleanliness of the gardens, verandas and pool area are a testament to the enthusiasm of the staff who are often seen walking around the establishment.
The grounds back onto the hotel's private beach area where again, the beach-lover will not be dissappointed by what is on offer. The only drawback to me was the horrible seaweed which is brought ashore and deposited in neat lines until cleared by the beach-cleaners. Not a problem to my wife who was enjoying the tranquility of the pool-side.
The hotel is quite expensive for food and drinks but it is only a short, 2Tun. Dinar taxi drive away from the Marina and Medina at Yasmine Hammamet where, during the evening period the restaurants provide equally good food and beverages at much less cost. Remember, lobster on the menus is priced by weight!!! We got caught out by choosing a large one - which incidentally, was worth every dinar we paid.
Staff at the hotel and in any of the local restaurants are out to please and will inevitably deserve the 5% -10% tip that you may be inclined to offer.
We are not inclined to holiday at any hotel twice but if ever we were to go back to Tunisia, this would without question, be our first choice.
