I spent Christmas there with my three kids, twins of 21 and a 20 year old, two boys and a girl, so I shared a room with my daughter and the boys shared the next door room. The moment we walked into the hotel we knew it was a mistake. Not because of the hotel as such but because it was empty and lacked any atmosphere. To be fair to the hotel, I had booked through Thomas Cook as a winter sun holiday package and they didn't have a rep at any point of the holiday.
The rooms were OK, basic but with nice large bathrooms and balconies. The cleaners were very friendly and did a terrific job every day. This was the good part. The rest of the hotel was cold and empty. Many of the things advertised on the hotel web-site were closed down for winter, so there was no snack-bar or beach bar and the night club was closed most nights only opening when we complained.
Many of the staff were quite rude and made it clear that they did not like the English. One of the night staff told my boys they should go back to London! None of the kids would eat the food which was very oily and bland - we generally eat spicy food at home. They ate out every day even though we were on an all-inclusive programme. There were only a few drinks available for all inclusive guests and as a rum drinker I was expected to pay for my drinks.
People should be aware that there is really nothing to do at this time of year, most of the hotels are closed for the winter. It is cold especially at night and there is no heating outside your room so you need warm clothing. This hotel is OK for older couples who just want a quiet time. It was useless for families and when we left, one family had already made an arrangement to return home a week early because they were so fed up. The harassment on the street is so bad that women wouldn't want to go out without men. My daughter was grabbed by a drunk when we visited the beach for the hotel and he tried kissing her - I had to jump in-between -it was pretty dreadful. The hotel beach was covered in rubbish and its hard to imagine it's nice even in the summer!
The boys were threatened by fellow guests when they were a bit rowdy one night after the disco and my daughter was racially insulted by another French guest. Very little English was spoken by the staff so you really need to be a French speaker or at least have a smattering of Arabic to enjoy the experience. You also need to take a lot of spending money because everything gets very expensive after 11 pm.
