We stayed at the Maritim Alhambra for 2 weeks, end of July 2007 to 13th August. Overall it was a nice holiday, and the beach is fantastic. Better than some of the other hotels' sections. The hotel's tuk tuk takes you to and from the beach, it isn't that far and you can walk it if you have to. The hotel itself is a little smaller than some others, and does not look as grand as some of the other 5 star in the resort. However, the rooms are well appointed, very clean, air conditioning good. If you book sea view don't expect a large view of the sea - it is very much in the distance as there is a large desert area before you can see it. The swimming pool is nice with wooden sun loungers, although there are not a great amount of loungers - the beach has a lot more.
I had read reviews about the staff being rude - indeed they are on the abrupt side and do not seem to be helpful. Make sure if going to reception you cover up swimwear as they are a little picky about this.
On the weekends they fill up with tunisian or algerian families, so there can be an influx and it can get a little busy. The turnover of guests is quite high, we had never really seen such a change before. Not all stay for the usual 7/10/14 days.
The food was of good quality but there is not a vast range. Maybe due to it being s small-ish hotel.
Overall, a nice hotel-not quite 5 star in every department - in a nice resort of yasmine hammamet.
