My husband and I have just returned from an unforgettable week at this hotel where we have had one of the best holidays of our lives. It was our first time in Turkey but, on the strength of this, will definitely not be our last.

It was also our first time staying in a hotel on an all-inclusive basis. Happily, at Lara Beach, all-inclusive really does mean all-inclusive. There are no sly costs added on. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main Jasmine Restaurant, pizzas, cakes, ice creams, soft drinks and unlimited local alcoholic beverages and cocktails are available throughout the day as part of the AI package.

We did, though, have a slight gripe about there being an extra charge for fresh fruit juices and wondered about the reason for it.

All meals in the Jasmine are served buffet style. The food is excellent, there is a vast choice, and we found the waiters (special mention to Mustafa) to be consistently attentive and friendly.

We were also entitled at no extra cost to one meal per week (during a fortnight’s stay this would increase to two) in each of the lovely à la carte restaurants – Thai, Italian and traditional Turkish.

The swimming pools are absolutely vast, and we had fun regressing to childhood by playing on the waterslides.

Throughout the day there are numerous activities on offer, including aqua aerobics, bocci ball, water polo, archery and beach volleyball.

In addition, the hotel has its own stretch of beach and a jetty, which is heavenly to sunbathe on (we found the out-to-sea sensation reminiscent of lying on a boat).

There are water sports in which you can participate for an extra cost (only kayaking is free of charge), although my husband felt the choice could have been greater.

The gym, sauna and Turkish bath are available free of charge, although one of the few downsides about the Lara Beach was that there was no supervision in the gym and also some of the equipment remained out of order throughout our stay, despite us reporting this to the staff. The changing rooms were on the small side and soon became cramped if occupied by more than two or three people.

This is truly a hotel with something for everyone, and it was noticeable that the guests during our stay encompassed a wide range of age groups.

It was the staff, though, who really made the holiday for us. We were treated to a show six nights a week in the amphitheatre, staged by the very hardworking and friendly entertainment team. We were very impressed by the lavishness and high standard of these productions, which we were told are rotated on a fortnightly basis (we have no idea how they remember so many dance routines).

Special thanks must go to Ronaldo, Jambo, Koray, Ksusha and Eva for being both exceptionally entertaining on the stage and great company at the nightly disco in the Sunset Bar.

The disco, which runs until the early hours, is great fun, and far enough from the actual hotel building for the noise to cause no disturbance to anyone preferring a quiet night.

The hotel itself is beautiful, modern and immaculately clean. Our room was lovely – albeit we were only in it to sleep – and afforded us a view over the gorgeous pools.

We are still on a high from the whole Lara Beach experience, and can’t wait to repeat it.

Party of 4 - Mum & Dad and my partner & myself.

We have just returned home over two weeks ago now from what looked to be a very nice place in the brochure. We arrived in Turkey at 09:30pm but the baggage reclaim was absolutely ridiculous, it took over an hour for our bags to appear, the belt didn’t move for over 45 minutes, the last thing you need really at this time of night when you are looking forward to getting to the hotel for something to eat and drink whilst relaxing.
We arrived at the hotel in good time from the airport to find a big problem really, we met a chap called Erkan behind reception who advised us the rooms we booked were not available and we had a choice to either take a very small room without balcony or pleasant view for the whole holiday or take a duplex room for four people for two nights, Erkan showed us the duplex room first which was a little like an apartment, two people upstairs and two people downstairs with no door in between but with separate bathrooms, we asked to see the other rooms as we didn’t like the idea of sharing with the folks, yeah we love them to pieces but we’re on our holiday and want to do what we want and how we want as they also suggested themselves but sharing this room would not allow for this as we have different times for bed and getting up etc. We then had to trawl back down to reception to get the key card programmed for the other two rooms and duly went back upstairs to look at these other rooms, yup we really didn’t want to spend our holiday in these rooms, small and dingy, no balcony & no room to move about in so we agreed that we would take the duplex room for two nights. Erkan advised they would provide a bottle of “champagne” cider really, a bowl of fruit & give us 25 euros towards a massage each as compensation as we made it very clear we were really unhappy with this situation as anyone would be, we are on our holidays and you don’t expect this sort of thing. The third day arrived so we checked back at reception to find Erkan was on a day off and the rooms we had paid for were still not available, the chap behind reception advise they had two rooms available with very small balcony so we moved rooms on the proviso that this would be sorted again properly next day – still can’t unpack. One of the rooms over looked the bins which is unacceptable for any hotel, I mean imagine, you’ve spent a day on the beach and you have a beer/drink on your balcony whilst having a good whiff of the bins, the other room was acceptable for a good night’s sleep. Next morning we went again to reception to find Erkan for a rather uncomfortable conversation for him where we walked away with the rooms that we should have had the first night we arrived, bliss at last – we could actually unpack our cases and not live like a travelling sales-person. These rooms were quite comfortable and spacious and it meant we could actually start to relax and unwind properly three days into our holiday. During one of the conversations with Erkan he was swearing quite opening in front of my partner and myself, I advised him to watch his language but he continued in a very unprofessional way.

The hotels grounds were quite nice and set out good, things just seemed to flow well and you knew where things were pretty quickly, plenty of sun beds available with very good choice of locations in which to perfect that tan. The food choices in the main restaurant were amazingly good however not geared towards us brits, nothing was bland but it was always something with a twist – the food was never hot, it was luke warm at best, the a la carte restaurants were pretty fabulous, we had the Italian once and the Thai twice, we tried to book the Italian again but did not happen, both of these we really really good, they had a special welcome with service to match, the food was exceptional and hot they both were truly great and would recommend. The Pizza’s in the yoruk tent were really very good, you could choose your own toppings and the pizza would go into the log oven, two minutes later out came the most delicious pizza – are you reading pizza hut????  The curries that were cooked outside on two occasions were really very good, one was for black and white night and the other to celebrate the end of Ramadan – again the staff were very good.

The staff were pretty good in the food and drink areas they had a chat and were always seen to be playing/communicating with the children onsite and were always willing to have a bit of banter which makes you feel welcome and gives you that good feeling, this is with the exception of the bar staff in the select bar “inside near reception” the waitresses were great but the bar staff were arrogant pigs really, would make you wait around etc for no reason, you barely got a grunt out of them, if you were paying for drinks there you would just go to another bar.

The hotels entertainment team seemed to do a pretty good job, very friendly and always outgoing with a very good quality of not being in your face and pushing you to join in things, the evening shows were a little repetitive always dance related shows, it’s a shame they don’t do audience participation events/things like most other countries as these sort of events are good fun and a laugh and just make you feel like you are having a great time. Our mum had a go at the aqua-aerobics but she found this very hard going and she is in pretty good health, we sat and watched on a different day and we thought the pool was too deep for this activity “neck height” but it was also way to hard for the average healthy person, they had two dancers who were very very flexible and fit doing the aerobics but no-one seemed to be able to follow all the moves, this should be made easier for all ages, sizes & abilities.

After a few days of being here we realised that not everything was included in the all inclusive package even though we read on the brochure it was therefore we started calling it half inclusive, the tennis courts were free but you had to hire the rackets and balls at 10 euros per hour, in the breakfast restaurant you could have freshly squeezed orange juice but at a price – this was brought around by a waiter and offered to you, popped on your table then you was expected to pay – not many people did and looked offended at the thought of paying, we asked for a local rum and coke at the bar but were advised this was chargeable, gin and tonic was free, you couldn’t have a bloody mary but you could have a vodka and tomato juice and add your own worcester sauce, salt ‘n pepper.

First impressions of the Hotel Lara Beach are very good but after a few days the cracks start to show, I actually sat on a chair in the select bar which broke and trapped my skin in the arm of the chair, this chair was taken away and we saw another chair break two days later, most of the chairs were quite unstable and appeared to have been glued over and over again. One night we wanted a coffee following a night in the disco, it was around 1am and we went to the select bar to use the coffee machine on the table only to be told the machine was closed, I laughed and advised the bar person a machine does not close, but they still said it was closed – oh well – the rooms could do with tea and coffee facilities really. We got talking to another couple of guests who by the seems of things had the same arrival experience as us and had to play room swapping games as the rooms they had paid for were not available upon arrival, this seemed to be quite a common occurrence, and you could often see people at reception from the select bar with animated actions as if they were unhappy with something or other, sometimes you could even hear them sounding annoyed/angry and using the rep to sort out some issues. Last year we went to an all inclusive place in the Dominican Republic and that was so fantastic it was unreal, the Lara Beach Hotel could do with a lesson or two on a Caribbean all inclusive experience.

I know for sure that none of us would go back to this supposed five star hotel again.

First of all, our praise goes to our Thomson Tour rep "Mustafa"! Friendly, funny and truly professional! Everyone should be like him!

Upon checking in at 10 min before midnight, we were greeted by friendly bellmen and reception staff, who presented us with turkish chocolates and a red carnation for me. (nice touch)! The lobby of the hotel is very grand and extremely clean! We proceeded to our room and although lovely, we were really surpised at the small size. I think it was due to the size and grandeur of the rest of the property, that this wasn't expected. The room was very comfortable and we had a lovely view that allowed us to catch sunsets every evening. The room included a mini-bar, which is re-stocked everyday with bottled water, local beer, sprite, fanta, coke and local flavoured soda. (all free of charge)

The bathroom and balcony are both a good size for a couple to share and toiletires (usual stuff) were provided. Although we weren't in the room often, the tv channels were fine and included VH1 if you wanted to listen to music during relax time. The maids cleaned your room everyday and replaced towels etc regardless of you asking them to or not. Everyone throughout the hotel were ALWAYS cleaning and seemed to take great pride in their jobs and enjoyed working there.

The restaurant and bar staff could not do enough for you and were always pleasant. During a weeks stay, you are allowed to visit each alacarte restaurant once during your stay and we found the Turkish restaurant to be the best with true 5 star service and friendly staff! The Jasmine (main restaurant), had a different theme each night and the food was extremely fresh and delicious BUT... way too much! I love all kinds of food and wanted to try EVERYTHING, but couldn't! Amazing chefs and cooks cooked fresh items such as stir-fry's, grilled meats, fresh kebabs, fresh fish, fresh sushi, profiteroles made in front of you and omeletes for breakfast! I cannot praise them enough! Desserts were out of this world and almost a shame to eat because they were beautiful!

The hotel health centre is great and the staff (especially the Manager) are extremely friendly. The Turkish bath (steam room & sauna) itself is free, but if you want to be exfoliated, scrubbed and massaged with bubbles (highly recommend), the cost is £25 euros or £50 Lira. Our rep suggested that we go on a Turkish bath excursion for £20 each, but I have to tell you... I've been on these before and you're with a group of people and don't receive the attention and pampering that you assume you are paying for. To me, it's a "tourist" entertainment trip, so that you can go back home and say "I've had a Turkish bath". I'm surprised that the tour reps do not boast the hotel health centre because I was treated like royalty! My husband had a Turkish shave and it was only 18 Turkish Lira (£9). He was lovely and smooth.

The pools....oh my god! If you are a couple, than the Silent adult pool is for you! What a great idea! No kids and never over-crowded! It also has it's own silent pool bar and is close to the main restaurant. The main pool is HUGE and also lovely, but if you don't want to listen to little kids entertainment hour or water arobics, go to the silent pool to chill out! The property itself is gorgeous and once you get past the pools and go through a fruit tree and flower lined pathway, you're at the beach and pier. Lovely! Near the beach is the Yurek tent, where you can get freshly cooked wood-fired pizzas at around 4 or 5pm.

Photos... the photographer on site is not pushy, but he sooooo resembles a younger George Michael and seems to draw you in! lol Very professional and he took some lovely photos of us. We chose to buy 4 large photos at 12 Lira each. (£6 each) Well worth it if you're struggling for nice photos of yourself on holiday and you're a couple or family that wants everyone in the pic.

Excursions... we went on 2 during our stay... Perge & Aspendos and the Market/waterfall trip. We highly recommend both. Both excursions included lunch and the ruins and ancient city at Perge were breathtaking to view. The Aspendos stadium/amphitheatre was amazing to view, but very hot even at the end of September! The Market and Waterfall trip is well worth it! Itinerary is: Lower Duden waterfall, fixed price market/textile shop, Bazzar in Magravat, then a river cruise with lunch (fish, kebabs, salad bread, rice) and to end the trip, a trip to the beach nearby where you can cool off and spend 1 1/2 hours tanning and swimming in the lovely warm sea! Both of our tour guides provided interesting historical facts and were very friendly and knowledgable.

Finally... our tips:

You are better off getting Turkish Lira as your currency, as you will get a better rate. (ask your currency exchange place to provide small notes and some coins if they can) The hotel cashiers never seem to be equipped with change and this becomes a problem when you want to leave tips or purchase something small with a large note in the hotel shop.

Do check the alacarte restaurant operation days, as some of them are closed on certain days and you don't want to be disappointed. (Queue at 10am to book that day)

Do enquire about the local speed boat trip that leaves from the hotels beach to the main waterfalls! (This trip lasts 1 1/2 hours and is about 15-20 Lira minimum of 4 people in a group) This will take you UNDERNEATH the waterfalls, as none of the others can do.

Don't buy ANY food from the Antalya airport when you return... the prices are insane! 17.50 Lira for a burger king chicken meal and the place is dirty with flies! If you are buying duty free in Lira, make sure you check the exchange rate.... It should ONLY be double the price, so don't get ripped off like we did. 44 euros should only be 88 lira and maybe a bit... (90 Lira at most)

A big hello to Tim and Amanda who we only got to know for a day or so, but enjoyed their company a lot! Please email me if you read this review, we would love to keep in touch!

Another hello to Barbara and John, the lovely couple whom we spent most of our pool time with. Hope you both enjoyed the rest of your stay! We enjoyed your company.

This hotel is wonderful and we commend the staff and management!
We are already looking to return as soon as we can!

stayed here for week at end of september and found the whole hotel to be faultless down to the cleaners and the bar staff. nothing is too much for them and willl go out there way to please you. food was amazing all day long and the whole place was spotless. weather was still in 30's and not a cloud in sky whole time stayed there. pool area was brill with kids pool with small slides a adults pol with own bar and a big kids pool which is massive, also another small pool from which the big slides go into and also a indoor pool. there was people of all ages and race from familys to couples.

if you are the kind of person that likes eating out every night this is not the hotel or place for you as there is no bars or anything outside hotel just a load of shops and other 5 star hotels. but to be honest the hotel is that big anyway we felt like we were eating in a diff restraunt each night.

also they have loads of trips to go on includeing a ski one from nov - apr.

to sum it up a week was not long enough for this hotel, was really upset when had to leave.
