We booked our holiday to this resort through our local Thomas cook travel agency. There were 5 in our party my husband and myself and our 3 boys aged 20,22,and 25. We described our requirements to the agency with some depth ( entertainment, all inclusive and good food as I have severe food allergies.) This hotel was selected because of the write up and all inclusive facilities. In fairness to the agent she did not know much about the area but it was in the brochure as new for 2011 and looked good.
Once we arrived at the hotel it was apparent that communication was going to be an issue!! Nearly all guests were Russian or German and the reception staff spoke very little english. Our allocated rooms were "disabled" with wheelchair access and facilities which we did not require as the hotel was overbooked. The boys room which was requested as a 3 person room had 2 beds and a camp bed. The room was so small you could not walk around the beds so they basically had one large bed taking up 80% of the room. We tried to discuss my dietary requirements with the customer relation department but they were quite dismissive. They asked the chef if my meal could just be plated seperately in the kitchen to avoid cross-contamination at the buffet but were told that they did not have enough staff to caterr for one guest and thier kitchen was very clean so i should not have any problems (complete lack of understanding). This highlighted our communication issues and increased my level of anxiety so i had a whole weeks holiday on plain salad and fruit (major detox) luckily I had come prepared with my Mayo which the barboys did keep in the fridge behind the bar for me until the day before our last when the kitchen manager spotted it and threw it out!!!
On day 2 we met with our Thomas Cook rep and expressed our dissappointment that there were not many british guests and that we were experiencing some communication problems. His response was rude and unnecessary and he said that " if you want to holiday with the english you should have gone to Butlins!!!"
We were quite horrified that he could be so blasse about our concerns and felt that there was no point in having any further conversations with him. When we tried to discuss the room situation and how cramped the boys were he just made us feel like "complainers".
By this time we had found out that the hotel is well recognised as a Russian and German resort and British guests are definately in the minority. In fact for the whole week we were the only 5 guests out of a population of approx 1500.
With all this negativity we took stock and decided to make the most of our holiday despite our issues which we did!
We booked a scuba diving trip through the guys on the beach. Great day out but the trip was overpriced in comparison to others -we paid 50 euro per person and when we arrived on the boat we found that others had only paid 40 euros (you live and learn).
The barboys, chambermaids and animation team all worked extremely hard and were happy, eager to please and as helpful as they could be once we mastered international signing.
For my husband and the boys the food was ok, plentiful but not outstanding. The a la carte restaurant was very good and the service was superb.
The wellness centre at the hotel was fantastic and the staff were lovely and one of the managers tansun spoke very good english and i had a fantasic massage programme.
The resort does not have many facilities outside the hotel so be prepared for a cab or bus ride to the nearest town approx 30 mins. It states that the hotel is near Side but this in reality is not the case and it is a 30 euro taxi ride away.
Overall, we had some really good quality family time and learnt lots of new card games! When we spoke to other Brits on the way home our experience did not appear unique and that this part of Turkey is renowned for mainly Russian and German tourists . We have not written this review to complain but to raise awareness as we do not believe we were given enough information about the area by Thomas Cook to make an informed choice. If the agent had informed us at the start that this was the case we would have decided to choose another area of Turkey so that the boys had some company their own age that they could at least talk to.
