I realise that Trip Advisor is such a helpful site when thinking about booking a holiday. I do however wonder if people have stayed in the same hotel as I have when reading the reviews!!
We have just returned (after a dreaded night flight) from Hotel Turquoise where we had a simply fantastic 2 week family holiday.
We were located in the side annex - between the main hotel and the garden villas. Because there were 9 of us in total in 3 rooms (2 families), we had requested adjoining rooms. Unfortunately, when we arrived we found ourselves spread over 2 floors, rooms apart. The next morning we went to reception who were very helpful and we were moved with no fuss.
The grounds of the Turquoise were beautiful and very well tended. As usual for Turkey, there were quite a few cats - however, they were all fed by the hotel at shaded feeding stations and vets came over to look after them and neuter them.
The food....what can I say! Make sure you take elastic waisted clothes - you'll need them! Every night there was such a variety of excellently prepared and cooked delights. The hotel themed the evenings - Italian, Mexican, Asian etc. There was always lots of meat, fish, vegetable choices, salads, pasta, rice etc, etc, etc. Also there were lots of yummy desserts and fresh fruit a plenty. Breakfast was pretty much the same most mornings with the choice of freshly cooked omelettes or crepes - tho these normally had a queue. Plus lots of other of the normal breakfast items and then pastries, breads, croissants galore!
Late breakfast was more limited, but still had plenty to choose from. Then by late morning "pancake man" started up outside by the large main pool, quickly followed by "pancake lady" who made traditional filled Turkish pancakes. Also at the other bar by the mini club they laid on self serve hamburgers, chicken nuggets, chips, salads etc. They even had the most delicious ice-cream from 1pm-3pm (not the usual Turkish "chewy" ice-cream!!). Lunch was served in the main restaurant and also in another, smaller one near to the pool - lovely choices again with our personal fave - chicken kebab meat and salad bar - YUM! All the food areas were kept scrupulously clean and tidy - there were always lots of waiting and cleaning staff on hand. For the first time ever on holiday, none of our group had any upset tummies and we never heard of anyone else suffering.
The Animation team were truly fantastic - they were always fun, polite, enthusiastic and professional. One of the best Animation Teams we've come across. Special mention to CuCu, our lovely boccia guy!!
There was the usual mini-club for the little 'uns and the more unusual teen club for the older ones. My son had already decided that at very nearly 18 he was "too old" for such things - however on day 2 we found him there and we rarely saw him again!
The nightly shows were great according to our kids - ranging from 7 - 18. Also, once a week a "special event" was set up outside - week one was a Garden Party with African Dancers. Week 2 was a full blown Beer Festival with beer wenches, games, footy net, competitions, a live band etc. WOW! And not forgetting the disco that ran til the wee small hours - and although our rooms were probably the nearest to the disco we never heard a thing.
The beach was great - this coast tends to be a bit stony and one half of the beach was a bit Japanese-Game-Show to get in, but the other was sandy and you could get into the sea with the modicum of dignity! And yes - shock horror - there was a little bit seaweed here and there (think it came from the SEA!), however the hotel even got a tractor down there in the evening if there was any excess and had lots of chaps raking it up!
The main pool was very clean and well looked after. It never seemed overcrowded. There was also another fair sized pool with two water slides - both great according to my kids! There was also an over 16's pool (age not dress size!!), which was a bit chilly (1st week of June) but VERY quiet. And even an indoor pool and jacuzzi area.
If I could make any niggly criticism it would be that the bar that overlooked the beach and the main pier (Turquoise has two piers), closed too early. We would have loved to have sat having our fantastic cocktails, watching the sun setting. Sadly it closed at 5pm. 8 or 9pm would have been great, but I don't know if this happens in high season.
If you want to leave the complex then Manavgat (huge market, haggle away to you heart's content!) is a 10 min dolmus ride away at 1 euro. Side is in the other direction and is 2 euros. Some fab ruins there, plus lots of bars and little shops. Lovely day / night out.
All in all we had an incredible holiday. The Turquoise Hotel ticked all our boxes. It's a very cosmopolitan hotel, but no nationality seemed to be favoured.
A great compliment to the hotel was that we spoke to lots of people during our stay and they ALL had one thing in common - every single one was a repeat visitor to the hotel! Some were on their 8th stay! Now, whatever your opinion about people sticking to the same holiday, it also speaks volumes about the Turquoise Hotel.
If you want it quiet - ask for a garden villa
