This is such a wonderful hotel. We expected the rooms to be cold since
they were carved into rock and we were visiting in December. We were so pleasantly surprised that the room was so warm, toasty and cozy.

There was a stereo system in our room with some turkish music CDs. There were books, magazines and board games in the room.

The bathroom was fantastic and the shower was hot and wonderful. They had a lovely olive oil soap.

We loved our little nook in the room. This was carved into the wall and carpeted. My husband and I spent our evenings in here lazing away,
reading, playing checkers and sipping tea.

The breakfast at the hotel was just basic and the eggs were greasy. But dont miss the spectacular view from the breakfast place. Wake up early so you can see the hot air balloons floating over the Capadoccia
landscape.

Urgup is a quite little village and Elkep Evi is a 10 minute walk to the town center (centrum). However the walk back to the hotel will take longer because its uphill all the way!

There is a great restaurant called Dimrit just 2 minutes walk from the
hotel and right next to the Turasan winery.

If you want to be closer to the cave dwellings and other attractions, consider staying in Goreme instead of Urgup.

My only complaint is the tour the hotel arranged for us. It was a private tour with a guide, car and driver to take us to the cave dwellings, Goreme open air museum, Pigeon valley, Imagination valley etc. While the guide covered all the important places, he was inexperienced and incompetent. This tour cost us $100 for 2 of us. If we had gone into town and booked the tour ourselves, it would have cost far less.

My Advise to visitors: DO NOT book a tour through a hotel. Go into town and book the tour yourself. The hotels get atleast a $20 per head
commission for booking the tour for you. And the tour guides get commissions for taking you to restaurants and tile/pottery/carpet shops.

I was in the area on a business trip and stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. I enjoyed my stay very much. I am familiar with the area and have stayed at similar hotels before and this one was a very pleasant experience. The staff at this hotel are very friendly. The view is great, especially from the restaurant. The food is amazing and really good value (I think it was $12 per person for a 3 or 4 course meal) so it is worth staying in for dinner at least a couple of nights during your stay. You need to book this with reception during the day though. The rooms were exceptionally cold (colder than any other cave room I have ever been in) so it might be a good idea to bring a cardigan with you even in the summer. They do offer a discount for cash payments upon checkout so it might be worth asking when you book.

Just back and love, loved this hotel!! It was so beautiful, amazing room, and views and the BEST dinners we had during 2 1/2 weeks in Turkey (and $12 for 5 courses!) There are many cave hotels to chose from but we chose this one as it's at the highest point in Urgup and has the best views from the lawn-covered rooftop. We were graciously given the Honeymoon suite with private grape -covered terrace. Staff was amazing - when we commented on how much we enjoyed the music during dinner Hasan had a copy of the cd burned for us. The steep walk down the hill was not as bad as most people post, depending upon your ability. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. My only regret is that we did not adopt one of the stray puppies living in the empty lot - very difficult to watch young puppies living under a tree and eating the hotel's garbage while the two young dogs who live at the hotel enjoyed a pretty great life.

My husband and I spent a couple of nights at this hotel this last July and we were absolutely fascinated with it !! Our room was really a cave room and while we had 38C outside it, inside was always confortable and cool. We had a jacuzzi room but in fact the jacuzzi is for only one person so we thought it was not worthy. The breakfast and dinner were a great surprise, delicious food, great music and a FANTASTIC landscape since the hotel is on the top of a small hill you can see everything from above! The owners and the girl at the reception desk were so friendly and arranged all our transfers, ballon ride, special tours. We certainly would come back to Elkep Evi!!
