“Probably the best hotel for the money I have ever stayed at”

Elkep Evi Cave Houses

13 May 2008

Elkep Evi hotel is probably the best hotel for the buck I have ever stayed at. They upgraded our room to suite because we were staying four days. The room was huge (about 20sqm/200sqft) plus a huge bathroom (8sqm). The room was clean and very fresh. One didn't feel the heat outside at all. The food was very good, specially breakfast, and the terrace were the food is served has an amazing view. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was included, but not the one from the hotel to the airport. They arranged for us to rent a car, which was delivered and picked up at the hotel.

“Beautiful cave hotel, amazing rooftop restaurant with valley view”

Elkep Evi was a beautiful hotel with excellent staff and an amazing outdoor terrace dining area with a breathtaking view of the valley. We got a great rate because we booked directly with the hotel. Our room was large, comfortable and had adequate heating as well as a jacuzzi tub. There was an outdoor alcove area with a day bed where one could drink coffee, tea while looking out into the valley. Staff was friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was generous (and included in the price) with eggs and traditional Turkish breakfast pastries being included. Breakfast happend on the gorgeous rooftop terrace that overlooks the valley. (Dining will be offered here as well when season picks up) I would highly recommend this property or at least staying at a cave hotel when going to Cappadocia-it is an important part of the overall experience. I would not recommend booking tours with the hotel directly since the cost will be higher than using a travel agency or going into town. Must dos here: Balloon ride and Whirling Dervishes show at Carvansaray. We loved the winery and restaurant Dimrit with outdoor seating and gorgeous terraced seating-only meters from the hotel.

“The best and most unique hotel ever!”

Elkep Evi Cave Houses

25 Apr 2008

My friend and I just returned from an absolute dream holiday in Turkey. It couldn't have started any better with a three night stay at the Elkep Evi. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Ali, everything was perfect! All of the staff are very helpful and friendly but we were mostly helped by Ali. Within the first hour of our arrival he introduced us to a great guide who helped to arrange wonderful day trips through Cappadochia. He just seemed to go the extra mile to make sure we were happy. We even had to add an extra night to what was going to only be two nights and wished we could have stayed longer.

The caves are decorated beautifully and the breakfasts served on the rooftop terrace are excellent, along with a great view of the valley. We definitely plan to return and wouldn't imagine staying at any other hotel.

“Elkep Evi Cave Rooms are a Delight”

Elkep Evi Cave Houses

7 Jan 2008

We stayed at Elkep Evi for 3 nights in mid-November, 2007. We arrived after dark, and found the hotel easily. It being the off-season, we were given once of the best regular rooms in the hotel and quickly found ourselves warm and dry in a roomy, yet cozy and nicely decorated cave room with all the modern amenities (including a separate bath with jacuzzi tub :).

My husband spent quite a bit of time in the evenings down in the hotel lobby where the internet connection was located and found the staff helpful and accommodating. They even stayed late one night to ensure he completed his on-line work.

The rooms have lovely views of the local valley, and are warm and dry (we were there when it was cold and wet outside - it snowed the last morning as we were leaving) - absolutely no musty smell, dampness or dust. The bed was queen-sized and quite comfortable, and the bathroom immaculate, with a towel heater and jacuzzi tub. There is a small refrigerator in the room, as well as a few books and magazines in English, German and Turkish in case you wish to read. Our room had its own covered private seating area outside - probably delightful in the summer, though a bit cool in mid-November.

Breakfast is included each morning - very tasty Turkish breakfast fare, And the hotel is within walking distance of a fabulous restaurant that was so good we wound up eating all three dinners there (it was recommended by the hotel and is around the corner next to the winery on the main street).

The hotel is very convenient to all of Urgup and the main sight-seeing areas of Cappadocia.

I very highly recommend it as an extremely good value for the money, excellent location, and a fascinating, once-in-a-lifetime hotel experience.

“Unique, Cozy rooms”

Elkep Evi Cave Houses

This is such a wonderful hotel. We expected the rooms to be cold since
they were carved into rock and we were visiting in December. We were so pleasantly surprised that the room was so warm, toasty and cozy.

There was a stereo system in our room with some turkish music CDs. There were books, magazines and board games in the room.

The bathroom was fantastic and the shower was hot and wonderful. They had a lovely olive oil soap.

We loved our little nook in the room. This was carved into the wall and carpeted. My husband and I spent our evenings in here lazing away,
reading, playing checkers and sipping tea.

The breakfast at the hotel was just basic and the eggs were greasy. But dont miss the spectacular view from the breakfast place. Wake up early so you can see the hot air balloons floating over the Capadoccia
landscape.

Urgup is a quite little village and Elkep Evi is a 10 minute walk to the town center (centrum). However the walk back to the hotel will take longer because its uphill all the way!

There is a great restaurant called Dimrit just 2 minutes walk from the
hotel and right next to the Turasan winery.

If you want to be closer to the cave dwellings and other attractions, consider staying in Goreme instead of Urgup.

My only complaint is the tour the hotel arranged for us. It was a private tour with a guide, car and driver to take us to the cave dwellings, Goreme open air museum, Pigeon valley, Imagination valley etc. While the guide covered all the important places, he was inexperienced and incompetent. This tour cost us $100 for 2 of us. If we had gone into town and booked the tour ourselves, it would have cost far less.

My Advise to visitors: DO NOT book a tour through a hotel. Go into town and book the tour yourself. The hotels get atleast a $20 per head
commission for booking the tour for you. And the tour guides get commissions for taking you to restaurants and tile/pottery/carpet shops.
