The good news first: our room was huge with a very comfortable bed with full mosquito net (okay, so I'm a fanatic on that subject), and electrical outlets galore. The garden is a nice location for an outside dinner or just a drink. The dining room/bar also is very pleasant. And the second-floor terrace, which a friendly staff member showed us during the day as the temperature started to rise in the garden, was shaded and breezy, a perfect spot to spend much of the day before we headed for the airport. When we did go to the airport, the hotel van got us there quickly and efficiently and the driver was very helpful with luggage.
But then there was the not so good news. In the room, the plumbing in the shower was on its last legs. Part of the faucet fixture actually fell off when I tried to move it; I was able to put it back on to complete my shower. (In fairness, the shower had plenty of hot water.) The shower must have leaked, as there was a good bit of water on the floor. Service at dinner our first evening was a little slow but not too bad, slower at breakfast, and abysmally slow at lunch. In fact, at lunch we waited well over an hour for our food, which meant that one of our three couples had to leave for the airport just as their food arrived. (Again, to be fair, the staff was very apologetic and our friends were not charged for lunch.) The problem clearly was in the preparation; the waiters were friendly and quite quick with drinks and such.
All in all, we had mixed feelings. Generally our stay was pleasant enough, but there clearly were some issues – particularly with meal service – that need to be addressed. If you are just looking for a good night's sleep, this is the spot. Meals, well, they could be an issue…
