My boyfriend, his parents and I went down to Buffalo on a Friday night to do some shopping. We stayed the one evening, and checked out the next day.
First impressions were good. Unfortunately, my GPS got us a bit lost and it took us forever to get to the place, but one quick phone call to the hotel and we were given perfect directions. The initial view of the hotel is nice, a very cute lobby with a bar and some tables. There is also a small cafe open for breakfast, which I will include details of below.
The hotel's server was down, so room selections were difficult, however, the hotel was full due to a wedding, so we were given upgraded rooms. I think so anyway. We were supposed to have just a regular room, but we got the one with the pull out couch and extra space.
The room was nice, very soothing decor. The bathroom was small, with a stand up shower only. The sink is just outside the bathroom door, and has plenty of room on the counter for toiletries, as well as a shelf below it. There are also hooks on the back of the bathroom door for towels. They also provide Aveda toiletries, which was a very nice surprise.
The beds were very comfortable, although we didn't find the pillows very comfortable. In addition, the walls are very thin and our party heard some of the drunks coming back at 3 in the morning. I didn't, but my bf's parents did, hear a couple who were very happy with each other, if you catch the drift. The toilet was also incredibly loud as the walls are very thin and the bed is right beside the bathroom wall. This woke me up in the night when my boyfriend had to get up.
My only big problem with our room was that our mugs had not been washed. My boyfriend's parents came into our room in the morning and I offered them coffee. I went to go pour coffee into a cup and it was covered in old dried oatmeal. Quite gross. In addition, their room got wake-up calls at 6:00, 6:05, and 6:08 - and they never asked for one.
When we checked out we asked the front desk why this happened, and they said that due to the server being down, the previous wake-up calls were not cleared. This was unfortunate. We also took down the icky mugs, which the front desk people just apologized for. We made a bit of a stink about it as between the two issues, we were not really impressed. They gave us a complimentary breakfast in the little cafe which included yogurt, juice, coffee and a pastry. It was a nice way to make up for things.
All in all, it was good value for the money, and the level of service was very good. I would return to the hotel if I could get it for the same price as I got it for off hotwire. Next time I would probably take my own pillow though.
